  1. Hi Brian, My apologies I haven't had much time to check this build out, but I do intend to go back to the start and re-read at some point soon! Looking good though. Craig
  2. Super impressive as always Jay! The vertical stab looks excellent so far. You've done a great job of lining up the ribs, the straightness of the pin shows that quite clearly! To me I feel the path you've taken allows much better fidelity than if you were to use the original (modified) tail and I have every confidence your plan will all come together nicely.... Apologies if you've mentioned it before, but out of interest what computer program are you using to do the 3D modelling, and do you derive the 2D shapes of the ribs from it then onto plastic? Keep it up mate, Craig
  3. Aside from the nose shape, it looks like they've got some cool stuff in there, like the older style top turret, radio room gun rack, ammo cans in the nose, tail turret etc. I'll get one so I can sit it next to the D model when it's done. I wanted an E and F anyway. Anything that's going to save me some more work is good and like KOG7777 said above, pretty sure no-one else is coming out with one any time soon. Good work HK! I can fix the nose because I like doing things like that Craig
  4. Congratulations Peter! Just as I experienced on the B-17 with the bomb bay, you can measure all you want and hope for the best, but it's that moment of truth that will finally confirm the fit. I'm so glad to see that everything fits in the hole very, very neatly. Well done mate! Craig
  5. Thanks Richard! Plenty more brass to be included yet. Every time I work with it I find more and more ways to include it Pretty sure it's all your fault..... How's that big cat going? Craig
  6. Stunning mate. Absolutely stunning. Modern jets aren't usually my thing but this is excellent. Well done. Craig
  7. Awesome! She's turning out a treat mate Craig
  8. Super impressive Loic! Your work in the nose gear bay and the other places with the plumbing is sensational. I don't know how you get those larger diameter pipes to conform to your will like that but they look great Craig
  9. Well done Peter! You totally nailed the look of the worn paint work. Looks a million times better than my first attempt! Craig
  10. That is massively impressive Tom! You certainly make the plank on frame method look easy. I know from experience that it is far from the case, and you clean work is always highly impressive. All good inspiration to learn from.... maybe I should have gone this way with the B-17! You have skills mate Craig
  11. Thank you very much for all the kind words and encouragement Gentlemen! I really appreciate all the feedback too guys... it certainly keeps me going on a rather long and involved project such as this one is I've been looking again at all the photos of I have of the windscreen area. While I am close, I think I could be closer still. I'm not going to trash what I've already done as I'm pretty happy with it, but I'd like to play around with a few dimensions and angles and build another. This way I'll be able to compare the two and with your help, decide which is the best "fit" for the model. The brass is certainly the best material for something like this; at allows you to be scale thin, yet not distort when you cut shapes out of it and can be filed to hone the overall shape. I'm still looking at how best I make make an operating sliding window. Due to the size of the tracks it is a fiddly and precise job. I've played around with a few ways to attack the thing but none of them are really sufficient for what I am trying to achieve here. I'll keep you guys posted on what I've been playing with soon hopefully! In the mean time, thanks again for looking and your comments Cheers, Craig
  12. That is absolutely amazing mate. That black and white pic is pure magic! Beautiful work Craig
  13. Haha, I get that when I see all the other awesome stuff going on round here! Thanks for looking in as always Kev I hope I can at least have the fuselage done and sealed up by the end of the year.... Craig
  14. So having finally got my mark-out dye, I could then draw up with reasonable accuracy the cockpit frames in brass. This ensures that they are nice and strong, particularly as there wasn't a great deal of brass left when I'd finished A rather tricky soldering job later and...... Ta da! Pretty rough cut and needs some more work, but pretty good even at this early stage Now for the moment we've all been waiting for... I reckon with a bit more tidying up, I might just pull this off! Still need to figure out how I'm going to do the windows and the sliding tracks, but I think for now the "face" is looking pretty close..... More to come soon Craig
  15. Hooray! I always enjoy following your builds Tom. This one promises to be very exciting and you're off to a great start. I'm always a fan of how clean (and unpitied-looking) your work is. Another winner in the works.... I don't know how you find time to build to this standard all the time My thoughts exactly Ernie! I've always like the York an I was thinking the same thing. Maybe another candidate for a 3D printed fuselage? Craig
  16. Thanks for the kind words guys! I'm having a ball on this one, so much to learn, so many challenges Rich, I should go back and have a look at your awesome B-17 on a truck dio, you did have some stunning interior detail in there which could be good reference for me Peter, I possibly wouldn't have got anywhere near this far without learning from yourself! I'm going to have to go back several times to your threads and have a look at how you've done certain things; I can see the engines being quite a challenge..... Glad to se you back mate Cheers, Craig
  17. Jesus Eric! I can't even keep up reading your posts let alone the rate at which you build your models. The mirage is looking stunning mate, well done! Craig
  18. Good to see another update from you Jay! I was wondering what your plan for filling the "trenches" was. Will you be able to scribe through the putty okay? I've never had much luck with it, but then you have skills . I'm wondering about the LE pieces of the tail; how about carving them in balsa or something like that to the close shape then covering them with either heat moulded plastic, just pushed over the top, or coating the balsa itself in cyano and a few good coats of primer. It may be quicker? If you've already modelled the shapes on the computer, could you perhaps send them to shape ways or something and get them printed? Just a thought, although in the end whichever way you decided will come out a treat like the rest! I'm not sure if you've already said it or not, but what's your plan for the finish? are you going with paint? I'm guessing you're not about to embark on the insanity that a few of us are doing at the moment with aluminium? You're doing an amazing job mate, looking forward to seeing more Craig
  19. Looking awesome Peter! I didn't even know you were building one. Craig
  20. This is cool! Looking forward to seeing how this is going to turn out Craig
  21. Thanks very much Harv! I appreciate you checking on me Cheers, Craig
  22. Hi Tom, Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying this as much as I am. I'm fully aware of the implications of what I'm about to say, but I couldn't live with my B-17 having recessed external detail, so even if it adds another two years to my build, every rivet is going to be raised and applied one at a time. Yes it's going to hurt, but imagine what it will look like when it's done. I won't know as I'll be in an asylum...... I'd love to have a whole year to do nothing but modelling... wouldn't that be sweet Pleasure as always mate, Craig
  23. Jim, Kev, thanks very much! You guys are always straight onto any updates and your comments and interest are always so motivating It has been a while since my last update, but as you can see there were a few technical issues to work through. Still, the show must go on and hopefully there'll be some more progress to report soon. Cheers, Craig
  24. Extremely well done Sir! All your very hard work and efforts have paid off big time. That's certainly one very nice looking P-38. Craig
