  1. Hi, Well a small set of updates that seemed to have taken hours to complete. I have been working on completing the RH console and the G unit etc. What has become obvious is that the cockpit and IP for the Mk1A was very different from the later F2A and F6. This has meant a significant amount of rework. I have seen the amazing work that John Wolstenholme has done over on ARC much of which will be very useful. Unfortunately most of the work on the cockpit (bar the ejection seat) is very different as I have discovered. More updates to come...slowly I will try to get some better shots on the next update. Regards
  2. I have waited for a 1/32nd Lightning for a long time - I had the Echelon lightning (in fact three of them) but did not feel I had the right skill yet. The Trumpeter kit out of the box is supposed to be a F1a/F3 - the supplied cockpit is a "impression" of the real cockpit. I have based the detail so far on pictures kindly supplied by Edgar Brooks on BritModeler and from Damien Burke on the Thunder and Lightning site. As you will be able to see the F1a was quite different to the later F2a and F6 variants. The rudder pedals are from the Hawker Hunter as I could not find a clear reference and I figured it was a similar time period give or take 5-7 years This shows the partially complete LH console - lots of work left including re skinning the sides The Trumpeter kit if full of rivets which are both two deep and in the wrong places - e.g. sometimes to many and sometimes not enough. I have filled with Mr Surfacer 500 and sanded and will see where I get to. The idea is to get it looking right. The area between the jet pipes is too pronounced (but certainly an improvement over the 1/72nd model) so I have modified this as well using the Echelon kit and some good photos as my reference. I am a very slow builder and an even worse completionist. I am planning to update the thread every couple of weeks. Regards
  3. Great work on all of it - and you certainly have some patience grinding those covers back to 1mm. They certainly look good for it. Kind regards
  4. Hi Alan, I have made a little progress with the Sunderland, but not as much as I would have liked as I was trying to finish a Tamiya Mosquito first. Needless to say through other events over Christmas I did not get that far with either I have a sabbatical this year so I am hoping to use some of that time for more modelling! Regards
  5. Hi Alan, Awesome work on the detailing and I can assure you that I will be copying you when I get back to the Buffalo. Happy New Year to you and Melanie. Kind regards
  6. Excellent news there Paul. Hope you are not affected by the new fires that have broken out in California. You can add the Hunter T7 nose to my Cutlass order - I certainly want one of those. Kind regards
  7. Great build and I love the idea of the pilot signing the model. Do you know what colour the inside of the jet nacelles are? Kind regards
  8. This is a fantastic idea with amazing details. Thank you for all of your efforts on this. Regards
  9. Fantastic looking build - I am at the start of the PCM Spitfire build and have already had a lot of help from Edgar and I have certainly learnt a lot from yours. Regards,
  10. Looking very nice indeed - I love the engine detailing. Regards
  11. Thanks to everyone for your comments on the Typhoon - hopefully this will provide the impetus to finish it! I will keep the site updated but you may appreciate I am a slow modeler Richard - The figure is a mix of PJ Productions, EaglCal and Magic Sculpt. Still needs a fair amount of work before I even get to trying to paint a figure! Alan - Thanks for pointing that out. What is really funny about this is that I read an earlier post a couple of months ago (indeed it may have been from you) on another model and thought "oh, need to make sure I do not make that mistake". I will correct that. This is actually my first complete model for some 30+ years so I think I was very lucky with having one of the first MDC Typhoons as I had very little issues with fit. I had picked up some great tips from reading these forums over the last few years but there was only a minimal amount of filler on the wings to fuselage and none on the fuselage itself. I did have a number of problems with the fuselage being different lengths on the MDC Tony - this is what caused that build to grind to a halt. What has saved my skin on that one is that Franck Oudin very kindly sent two fuselages halves through with some other parts left over from his build and that is now what I am using going forward. Thanks again for all of your comments. ColinR
  12. Great restoration work on what looks like a great model.
  13. Here are the rest of the photos... The next one has a half complete pilot model that will be positioned on the aircraft. Comments, Critiques etc are welcomed.
  14. Here we go it looks like I might actually complete one this time. I would like to thank Edgar Brooks for all of his help on this Typhoon and the PCM Spitfire that is in its early stages. I have posted once before with the MDC Tony - but I have not really progressed any further due to problems with different fuselage lengths etc http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.ph...c=17986&hl= There are many things wrong with this model which I have put down to modeling experience but I am generally pleased with the result - the quality that I see here and on Britmodeler, Hyperscale and AircraftResourceCenter are a constant learning experience that I visit every day for inspiration and help. Please ignore the prop angles as I did not move these to the correct positions before taking the photographs. The model will one day be placed on a base in Northern France just after the landings etc.
  15. Hi, Whilst I am finished the MDC Typhoon and PCM Spitfire I came across a box I had, had for a while with the Matchbox Mk22/24 and the Warbirds update set (from MDC) that I tried to use a couple of years ago. I gave up because I could never get close to matching the Warbirds Nose and the Matchbox fuselage. Has anyone ever managed to build this with the update? If you have I would love to hear if you encountered this problem and how you overcame it (to be exact I have 3 of the update sets and 2 of the Matchbox Spits - all seem to have the same problem). Regards
  16. looks great - cannot wait for the two I have ordered to turn up! Regards
  17. Here is my first attempt at riveting using "Rosie" and the Model Art book for reference: First of all I used a undercoat of Mr Resin Primer and then I drew the lines on. Then with good old Rosie... Now I just have everything else to rivet - and I am guessing that the fuselage will be a little more challenging
  18. I have the MDC Typhoon and therefore bought numerous references. There are photographs of operational Typhoons which clearly show aluminum framework. As I understand it the interior was initially lower half interior green and the top half black and that this was later changed to all black. Kind regards
  19. Thanks to everybody for their kind comments. Here is the latest update from a couple of weeks ago - now looking to close the fuselage halves. I still need to radically improve my photography! I am looking to rivet the Tony as all of the photos show that the rivets are very prominent on the natural metal airframes - this will also be a first Bigger updates due soon. Kind regards
  20. Thanks to everyone for your responses. Green it is. Now I just need to find the time to build the MDC conversion
  21. Hi, Does anyone know what colour the cockpit was on the Spit PR XIX - IPMS Stockholm has photos in green and Modelers Datafile has photos in black? Regards
  22. Hi all, This might be an old subject but I have just seen on Hannants the MPM 1/24th Komet. Does anyone know anything about this model as it is very expensive £240? Regards
  23. Looks awesome - I love the setting and the groundwork. I hope you do not mind if I ask how did you create that? Regards
  24. Thank you for your kind comments - I am now the tender age of 45 I have done a lot of reading of all the great builds on this site (and Hyperscale and Aircraftresourcecenter) and took a lot of notes!
  25. Hi, Thanks - I used the Lifecolour Italian sand as recommended by Radu during his build
