LSP_K2
Continuing this thread, the next donor kit for my WWII den fighter collection will be this, the venerable Otaki "George", (quite a spiffy kit, all things considered). It's so close to painting time, I can't hardly stand it. This will be another attempt at improving on the spinning prop problem. LSP_K2
The scheme I intend to use, (from the HPM Miniprofile). I'm going to try some new painting tricks on this one,... (new to me anyway).
ssculptor
I have an idea I want to use for the illusion of the spinning propeller for the hanging models. I haven't tried it yet but I open it to you and the others if anyone has the time to try it. The old ways were just a thin circle of clear plastic (I was about to say celluloid but that is what we used in 1940's and that would kinda date me) or clear plastic with streaks of concentric circles made by a spinning wire wheel or a block with sandpaper glued to it chucked in a drill. How about taking a V section of the clear plastic with the lines scratched in them glued onto the trailing edge of each propeller blade? Then try to blend the blade and plastic together in some way, perhaps with paint washes? I'm way to busy to do it myself since, thanks to the recession and my pisspoor planning I am back at work making money to dig myself out of the hole I am in. Right now I am trying to master a 3D software in my spare time. Any other ideas? Stephen

Stephen So far, what I like best is the individual prop blades being depicted, with softly applied paint to give a sort of spinning blur illusion to blades. Obviously one of the problems we have is determining what we think looks best. Looking at photos is not a lot of help, as various shutter speeds create all sorts of interesting images, from a whirling circle, to blades that seem to stand motionless. Shawn M
you have many irons in the fire huh! You going to do that PR Lightning in Haze paint? I've got that build in the cue as well. The scheme you've shown above looks like its right my alley as well! LSP_K2

The scheme you've shown above looks like its right my alley as well! Too many Shawn, too many. And yes, the Lightning will be done as synthetic haze paint. If I understand correctly, the F-5E didn't use the real haze paint, so I'll be trying to fake the synthetic scheme.
LSP_K2
As long as I'm adding stuff, I might as well also add these. Both are Otaki kits, Thunderbolt and Corsair.
LSP_K2
Two more for the pile, with many others waiting in the wings, so to speak. Eduard Yak, and Hobbycraft P-40, destined to have Torch markings. Edited February 22, 2018 by LSP_Typhoonattack
LSP_K2
Didn't have any really dark green, so I settled for this. Bottom was still a bit sticky, so I couldn't handle model to mask canopy; I just covered with tape and sprayed around it.
LSP_K2
Well I'm a happy pup. When I left my job in March, the company was kind enough to donate a complete computer system to me for my personal use (they did snatch the hard drive though), and I didn't have to grovel or anything. I've now (finally), installed a new 160GB hard drive, as well as the O.S., and she's working beautifully. I've been transferring (copying), about 6GB of data at a time to hobby room computer via a flash drive; tons of photos, notes, drawings and the like. I've literally wanted to have a setup like this down in the dungeon for years, and now that dream has been realized. LSP_K2
Work continues on the George. Still too light I realize, but I can certainly live with that, plus the future is bound to make it darker. Yellow wing LE ID bands still to be added, then she's ready for gloss coat. LSP_Kevin
Nice work mate. I built this kit myself many years ago, and its main shortcoming (as with all the Otaki WW2 IJN/IJA kits) is the ridiculously shallow wheel bays. I think I'll repaint mine one day.
