Hi Martin

here are loads of flush rivets which really don't help much. And I have a complete set of Rosie the River Riveters but I'm pretty sure adding rivets and panel lines isn't allowed either. Sometime it's like building a model in the dark with your eyes closed

HI Wolf
I sure owe you a HUGE CUP OF JOE!
Yep, I knew as soon as I broke the box open that all all the raised rivets that should be there weren't and what rivets there are, are flush -  thousands of dimples. with the SBD being headed for the 2018 Noreastcon and will be entered in the Aircraft Box Stock category, the rules prohibit adding any AM at all. I decided on the Box Stock category for a few reasons: the build time wouldn't drag on for month after month and I could concentrate on the building fundamentals and painting. The two other reasons I went OOB was that I already had the ancient Trumpeter kit and that the AM I needed just can't be found any more: Eduard BIG Ed set Master's resin wheels. So might as well bite the bullet and see how the Old Gal will do on her own.
Peter

Sorry Peter, my bad! I should have read your introduction more carefully. No aftermarket.......so no Archer raised rivets! I've upped my meds, I'm better now.......

Cheers,
Wolf

Hi Peter, first, nice to have you back my friend, i missed your appearance over here. :punk:

The Trumpy Dauntless, i heard allot of great feedback of that kit, saying it is one of Trumpy's greatest kit's, can you second that Peter??

Hi Danny

Much appreciated the welcome home :)

I've just started working on the front office and the kit being from 2006, is showing it's age a bit. I'm completely spoiled on how the IP on the Tamiya kits shine and Trumpeter's earlier attempt requires a lot of masking and appears very flat when finished. Since my interior will be basically AK Aluminum and MRP Semi Matt to represent the painted lacquer finish, the plastic needs to be smooth and it's far from it, with every major part requiring sanding and polishing  to remove 'polishing marks' that remained in the molds. I really didn't expect much more then what I've found so far and if I was going with a post Pearl Harbor aircraft, the interior would have been interior green and the polishing issue would have been a lot less. Being held to a Box Stock build for the contest, I can't substitute parts, add Airscale dials and bezels or even IP panels.

See how it goes from here

Peter

This is one to watch for me, an early USN aircraft built OOB, should be fascinating I have a Wildcat (Trumpeter) somewhere to finish up in yellow wings style.

Cheers

Hi Brian
I’m finally off and running and no question the SBD will be a creampuff compared to the Tigercat. I’ve been intenly following your build and your solution to the nose gear issue was brilliant. I’ve been harping on this one issue on both treads: proof positive HpH needs to cast a replacement nose gear for what the ki cost.

Thanks Denns
Making progress and a small front offce update today. Just love the Golden Age Yellow Wing aircraft schemes. The constraints going OOB for an IPMS contest has already posed a few unfore seen challenges
