Why is the old Italeri F-104C $150 at retail?

ITA 2515 at Scale Hobbyist.

About $24 less expensive but shipping from SB is half for orders over $100 (and less than $200) so not sure if the total cost including shipping [$9.95 from Scale Hobbyist] would be beneficial.  Also, Scale Hobbyist charges no sales tax (at least for now).

That is about covid, war, broken supply chain, freight costs, inflation and all. Gone are the days when a schoolboy could spare some money and buy a decent kit.

As for the Italeri F-104, I built the G and TF. Upsides are more than downsides, nicely buildable with quite a room for AM stuff. Old good Hasegawa has some better features, though. Anyway, 150 bucks may be a little steep. This is not a new kit after all, must be in the market around 10 years or so, I was lucky to buy a couple at 55 Euros each but that was before covid.  Maybe 100-ish should be a good price in the US nowadays.
