otis252
Hey guys, need some info on building a Israeli F-15D Improved Baz. What would be the best starting point, the Tamiya F-15E or the Revell F-15D/E kit? What changes need to be made to the cockpit and air frame to construct this Eagle. Also, does anyone have a source for decals for these aircraft? Any other info would be most appreciated. Thank you. Chuck
thierry laurent
Hi, It depends whether you want to use conformal tanks or not. They are separate on the Revell D kit but not on the Tamiya E. For the Tamiya option, you need to crosskit with a C or J if you do not want them. There are various other changes to consider (landing gear, antennas, etc.) but the cockpit will be the most difficult part. You can start with a MSIP front office but will have to scatchbuild fully the rear station. For decals Cutting Edge and Sky released such decals but they are alas OOP for at least 15 years. For detail reference the Israbook is the best option. For general camo and markings views the recent Amos Dor IAF Eagles book is the most comprehensive one. Keep also in mind the airframes knew regular updates as the oldest ones are now more than forty years old. So you need first to choose a reference era. otis252
Thanks Thierry, I'll be doing an aircraft with the conformal fuel tanks. So the Revell kit might be a good starting point, seeing that I have on in the stash. Chuck
thierry laurent
The kit asks for serious work but changing a E into a D is not a small task either !
Tony T
Ten or twelve of the Israeli Ds were Es in all but name. And most F-15D production uses the same airframe as the E. Tony
thierry laurent
True for the airframe but not the cockpit and typical D Israeli external features.
