Brexit & Shipping to the EU

This "foreign sellers must register as tax agents for Her Majesty" thing has everything to do with Brexit and it was introduced by the British.

The "new EU VAT regulations" share no similarity. The difference is that from July everyone will have to pay VAT on imports. In the current system, it is a lottery. Some packages can get past without taxes, others don't. From July every package from outside the EU will be charged VAT. The charge will be operated by the seller, if capable of doing so (the likes of eBay, Amazon, etc) before dispatch or by the carrier (post, courier) upon arrival. This is already the current system in place anyway, the only thing that will change is that from July there will no longer be any element of "randomness" about which package gets hit for taxes and which does not.

I am not sure that there are too many people in a great hurry to register as "tax agents for Her Majesty", especially in the US, where, if I remember history correctly, they had a previous disagreement about taxes, or tea or something.;)

My book order of December was finally sent from UK... but DHL is asking me 44 euros of European VAT whereas I already paid the VAT when I ordered! <_< I notified that to the seller but I'm afraid there will not be an easy way to solve that... :angry2:

There is no VAT on books in the UK!!
