Water Transfers

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Just wondering about these. Just got a Tamiya Zero, markings will be airbrushed but wondering about the stencil data? Don't like the thick Tamiya option. There are a set of 'Water transfer' stencils for the kit at Hannants (but at £13.99!).

Are these any good? What's the difference from a normal decal?

Thanks for looking in...

I've never heard this term before, which to me just sounds like it's describing standard waterslide decals. Are you sure you're not talking about the Wet Transfer system from HGW? If so, they go on just like decals, but after some drying time, you actually peel away the non-printed areas of the backing film, ostensibly leaving a result similar to dry transfers.

Ah, yes... thanks that's the one.

So basically, no carrier film... I guess they must be good then?

I've only used their rivet sets, and found that getting the carrier film off thoroughly can be tricky, and that occasionally part of the decal would lift with it. A few of the guys here have had experience with their markings sets, and I think the results have been mixed. Hopefully one of them can chime in with their experience.

Currently I am building tamiya A6M2 and using HGW wet transfers.

The result is amasing. Looks like this

I used them on tamiya x-22 and tamiya mark fit. Drying time - 24 hours.
