Needs a good strip and clean - air is unable to escape around the spray head/nozzle and is blowing back up through paint reservoir.

Happens occasionally on mine - quite often on a long spraying session with acrylics.

I had the same with my Iwata a few weeks back. Could be one of a few things so I covered all the bases.

Complete strip down and thorough cleaning.

Make sure the needle passage way at the bottom of the cup is perfectly clean.

Make sure the O-rings are clean and have a bit of Super Lube on them and are seated correctly.

Lube the needle with the Super Lube

Now assemble.

Use the wrench to snug up the assembly - don't go overboard. This is normally where the problem is.

Hopefully, all should be well now and let us know how you make out.

Most likely the O-ring will need to be replaced as it isn't sealing. Also, please never use Vaseline, as it is petroleum based and will ruin the o-ring . Superlube can be purchased on line from Sprue Brothers or any vender that sells air brushes.

About the superlube.

While attending a figure painting seminar, the teacher would disassemble the AB to clean her up and he would pass the clean needle in his forehead!

We were amazed and asked him why?

He just responded that it was cheaper, the same or better that the superlube.

I do that since then.

Careful, just pass the needle body avoiding the tip!

Never lubricated my HP-CH in 8 years of hard use - and still all original...

Only gets fully stripped *very* occasionally.

Agree with Peter regarding replacing the o-ring.

When I tear mine down every night after an evening of painting, I make sure to seal the threads of that little bitty nozzle before I replace it... I have some beeswax that I got from somewhere - the pharmacy or supermarket most likely - and I turn the nozzle threads in the wax (being very careful not to drop it, it's very small) and then replace the nozzle in the airbrush body. Do not over tighten the nozzle, it's very easy to do.

I had that same issue with my HP-C+, and sealing the threads fixed it for me.

Cheers,
