Shawn M
After my LSP Corsair build, Im onto a 1/48 build for the Fortress Group Build Over on ARC. I will be using the excellent Paragon conversion set which includes radome, anetnnas, flame dampers, etc..GREAT set of parts! Construction is straight OOB for now, with the deletion of nose cheek guns, bomb aiming equipment and the chin gun. This will be an in flight model, so the gear is retracted. My aircraft Im modeling had no side windows, so I added a brass pin and receiver to mount the guns. Here is where I am so far: Edited March 7, 2011 by Shawn M

LSP_K2
Does everybody have one of these Iconic Fortress kits in the stash? I built one as a kid, and still have some parts from it. I also have one partially built that I intend to do as a half and half.
Shawn M
I built one as a kid as well, bought this from Hobby Lobby for the GB, thanks to check out staff error it was only $20.
LSP_Kevin
Hey, nice work Shawn! Does everybody have one of these Iconic Fortress kits in the stash? Not me, and I've never owned or built one either. Not sure I could store the box, let alone the finished model! Kev
Learstang
Excellent start, Shawn! I'd really love to do a 100 Group Fortress III in (no booing now!) 1/72nd scale. Just something about such an American plane in British Bomber Command camouflage and markings that I find very interesting. I look forward to your build. Finding stuff online for this aircraft has been a real bear. Thank you, Shawn! As luck would have it, I just found my decals from storage for a Group 100 Fortress. I may just have to start getting the other parts together, such as a kit (any recommendations, anyone?), and the conversion kit, I forget who does it but I've seen it on Hannants' site. When I'm ready to start, I think I will take you up on your kind offer (I'm not surprised that information is scarce given the quasi-secret nature of Group 100). Stay tuned. Shawn M
Paragon Conversion Kit (see this thread first post) If you have a decal sheet you're way ahead of the game. You could use a late F with cheek bulges, or a G like I am to make a Fortress 3 out of.
Shawn M
glued the wings together last night, retracted the gear, finished adding windows and interior so I can join the fuse halves tonight.

Kev I don't know this as fact, but I imagine the Monogram Fortress is the most held kit around the world by aviation modelers.
Shawn M
that would not surprise me ONE bit.
WrongWay
Nice start! Looking forward to seeing this one built. I've never owned the kit either but I did build the big B-29 as a kid. Now that I think about it I might pick up another B-29. Or maybe I'll wait to see if Wing Scale does one. I'll be getting their giant B-17 to go along with my B-25.
