Allok Posted November 11, 2007 Author Posted November 11, 2007 Just started into the data decals for this plane. Now I remember why I don't like doing modern jets! There must be at least half a million tiny "no step" stencils. They're eveywhere. How are you supposed to work on the plane if you can't walk on it? Maybe I should walk on it!!??
DaveJ Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Just started into the data decals for this plane. Now I remember why I don't like doing modern jets! There must be at least half a million tiny "no step" stencils. They're eveywhere. How are you supposed to work on the plane if you can't walk on it? Maybe I should walk on it!!?? Oh boy, do I know what you mean! The stencil set I got for my Phantom from Hobbydecal include every panel number. Not to mention the regular stencils on a hi-viz Navy bird. And they're dry transfer. Remain calm and do not walk on the model!! It'll be worth it when you're through....
Texas Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 HI Yes remain calm. It will all be worth it when it's finished Texas
Ian Aylmer Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Hi Allok, Yeah, there will be a billion of them, but worth all the effort. Thanks Ian
Allok Posted November 16, 2007 Author Posted November 16, 2007 Good news. I've managed to chew my way through the majority of the decals and now I'm resuming work on the gear bay doors. The Aussie Decals seem to stick like poo to a blanket. You really have to make sure the decal is in the right spot before padding out the water 'cause you can't shift 'em afterwards!. The nav lights are from Novascale (also very sticky). I have decided that the fuel tanks I purchased from Roberts models are not going to be suitable for what I want to do so I ordered some different ones that might work a little better. Hopefully, they'll arrive before the end of the GB. Cat keeps drinking the water from the decalling bowl!!!
Ian Aylmer Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Hi Nice to see you making real progress. Looks like it will be a winner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Show us a full shot of how she looks. Thanks Ian
Allok Posted December 7, 2007 Author Posted December 7, 2007 Decals on and sealed. Gear, bay doors and ladder attached; Canopy in the dipping case, tanks on their way from Roberts Models (Hopefully) and all the other bits and pieces sitting on the work bench.
CPNGROATS Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 As far as the 'no-step' admonition...a nice coat of Future wax helps with those black heel marks... BTW, your F-18 looks super w or w/o thye heel marks... Cheers, ggc
Allok Posted December 8, 2007 Author Posted December 8, 2007 As far as the 'no-step' admonition...a nice coat of Future wax helps with those black heel marks... Cheers, thanks for the tip. Luckily, I was able to avoid any "out-of-scale weathering" by taking a step back from the kit for a while and consuming a modest portion of my favorite Draught. Sitting on the floor (haven't got a shelf big enough for the case). Canopy paint hardening for next step, cans in the paint shop.;
Ian Aylmer Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Hi And in no time at all it really looks the part, very nice indeed. Thanks Ian
