  1. Aircraft are a little bit more finicky than armor. There's more to fill, and mask, than on a typical tank. That adds certain challenges to building aircraft, which don't necessarily exist when building armor. Shot
  2. Great stuff. I do like WWII IJA/IJN aircraft. Your work is first-rate. Shot
  3. Right cracking work, mate. I really have to get one of these, now. Always did like the brutal, utilitarian look of a Spad. Does anyone know if they carried TERs? I'm thinking that'd be a 'no', but it doesn't hurt to ask. Shot
  4. That's beautiful. Your skill and patience outshine mine. Shot
  5. Very nicely done. I especially liked the finish. What was the kit? Shot
  6. I've used white glue for masking with a lot of success. Thin it with water and push it into all the corners with a toothpick. Let the glue dry, paint the frame, then after the paint has dried use the same toothpick to pull up the glue mask. Works great, and is a lot simpler than any other method I've tried. Shot
  7. I haven't had a lot of success with masks. I use white glue applied with a toothpick, thinned with water if necessary. No worries about underbleed, and the same toothpick you applied the glue with can be used to pull up the glue after painting. Shot
  8. Epoxy putty, almost always. White glue, for filling issues around clear parts. Shot
  9. Thanks. I'll be more careful next time. Shot
  10. I've worked with PE on a couple of kits, but I've always had trouble with paint adhering in something like a permanent manner to the PE parts. I'd welcome advice in this matter. Apologies if this has already been talked about, but the LSP discussion forum is 1335 pages long. Shot
  11. Cheers, mate. Yeah, I'm not really sure about the whole clipping thing, but unless I find a way to gin up some different codes I'm just going to go with it and hope for the best. Kevin, the advice was most helpful, thanks. Shot
  12. OK, trying this again. My first build log, blah, blah, blah, blah.... Shot of the box Shot of the side walls I'm not a Spitfire expert, so feel free to sing out if you see something wrong. You may note the sidewalls are maybe darker than they should be. That's because of the lighting. I plan to build this as Johnnie Johnson's mount, but I also plan to give it clipped wingtips. I'm given to understand that the tips were readily interchangeable, so I think I'm okay there, but again, if you know that it's wrong, let me know. I probably won't change how I build it, but it's always nice to know the right answer. Shot
  13. Okay, thanks. I'll give it a try. Shot
  14. Yeah, see the edit to this post. I'm having a hard time figuring out how to attach an image. Shot
  15. My first build log for LSP, the subject being the Pacific Coast Models Spitfire IXc. I was going to start off with a shot of the box, but I don't see anything obvious which will let me post an image. I know I'm doing something stupidly obvious, but I'm not apparently smart enough -sorry, meant to type 'enuf'- to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any help will be appreciated. Shot
  16. My first build log for LSP. Starting out with the obligatory box shot.
  17. That is probably the sanest bit of advice I've ever read. If you're never going to see it, why bother?
  18. Just got this kit, knowing that I'd be doing BBD myself. Got the Zotz set for this bird, so I guess I know what I'm up against. Shot
  19. Mein Herr, es ist einem ausgezeichnete Bauen und Bemalung deiner Flugzeug. Vielen Dank BJ
  20. Greetings, I'm to build the Pacific Coast Models Spitfire IXc in the near future. Preparatory to the build, I've been going over my references and I find that: I can't readily make out consistent differences between the c and e variants, regarding armament; I can't tell which were more likely to come with clipped tips. I'm looking to build what appears to be an e, with the clipped wings and invasions stripes. The alpha code on the fuselage is A EA, and it looks like it has the cannon inboard, with the two .30s outboard. It also has invasion stripes. I think my references are right, but I'm not certain. Any advice? I'd also listen to suggestions regarding procuring an AM decal set for the markings in question, though I think I can do my own fuse codes if that's how it had to be. BJ
  21. You know I know I want to. . Have to figure out how to do that very intricate paint job, first. BJ
  22. Looking at the nose radar antennae in some photos, I note that some of them are as you depicted in your outstanding build, but others are pointing straight up/down. Could the antennae be steered? What determines (if anything) how they are pointed? Again, masterful build. I'm considering getting one myself, though I've not the first idea how I'd reproduce the paint job you did without my eyes exploding. BJ
