  1. And exactly zero of those paints could be called accurate by your definition. There simply isn't enough data to claim that any model paint manufacturer has an accurate representation of, for example, PC10. There was never an official specified formula for PC10, and individual manufacturers mixed their own in small batches (which means that a Sopwith Camel completed on a Friday might have a slightly different shade of PC10 to an indentical Sopwith Camel built by the same manufacturer on the following Friday). I've had several paints claiming to represent PC10 by a wide variety of paint manufacturers over the years, and none of them match, so which one is correct? None of them - but also all of them. Even when you study the few surviving WWI aircraft in museums you have to take into account 100 years worth of aging varnish, so anyone claiming they can create a 100% accurate model paint colour for WWI aircraft is fooling themselves. Even the masters of the art of interpreting WWI colours - such as Ray Rimmel - have always stated that their conclusions are interpretations only and should not be considered 100% accurate.
  2. Well herein lies the rub - what might be a worthy subject to you probably has zero interest for someone else. You might argue that HPH would be better off spending their resources on something else, but they know their market and want to make something that no-one else has done before.
  3. If manufacturers only produced kits of popular subjects, though, all we'd ever get is endless Spitfires and Bf-190's.
  4. I think the heat is leaving the market somewhat, and prices are starting to come down to a more reasonable level. Practically everyone who wanted a specific WNW kit has probably got one by now, so on Ebay the high prices are only really associated with auctions for the very rare or most desired kits (such as the Gotha G.IV and the Richthofen Albatros) or the 'buy it now' sellers who always put up high prices.
  5. They've already announced the McLaren Senna, so I'm going to say it's not a 1/24 car. Might be a 1/20 F1 car, but I'd hazard a guess that it's going to be something R/C as that's the real money maker for Tamiya.

  8. First off, this is not a political thread - no need to discuss the merits and detriments of Brexit here. However, because of the current lack of a trade deal between the UK and EU a lot of British companies will be stopping shipments to the EU for the foreseeable future, probably until at least the first week of January (and I guess the same will apply to companies shipping from the EU to the UK). This is from Hannants: 'We will no longer accept orders from EU countries from 27th December. On December 27th our website will stop accepting orders from all EU countries. This is ONLY from EU countries. Please send us your orders as soon as possible! We will re-open the website to EU countries on Monday January 4th. The BIG difference is that all EU countries will then be Export countries so we do not have to charge the 20% VAT/Tax. OUR PRICES WILL BE MUCH LOWER! We will then be charging Export prices without 20% tax. Possibly you will have to pay tax and duty when your parcel is delivered but we do not know. No information seems to be available. Please be sure you receive our weekly Hot News sheet because this is where the more detailed information will be posted.' And whilst they only deal with car models, not LSP's, Hiroboy and Zero Paints are also stopping EU orders from December 18th until early January. There's also likely to be (possibly significant) delays in delivery of parcels to/from the UK and EU. So if you're in the EU and need something from Hannants/Hiroboy/Zero Paints before the New Year, better order it quick!

  12. I've gone down both routes in the past. I went to great lengths to fix an error I made on my WNW Junkers J.I, but recently I used an incorrect colour for the Special Hobby Ki-27 - I thought about fixing the problem, but that kit was such a dog and fought me all the way that I'd lost interest in it by that point and was just trying to finish it, so I ended up leaving it as it is.
  13. Unless you're entering a competition the only opinion that really matters about the mistake is your own. Imagine walking past your display case 12 months from now and your eyes resting on the offending model - would seeing the white paint instead of aluminium irritate you, or not? Would you not be bothered, or would you think 'I should have taken the time to fix that'?

The problem with this theory is that the moulds for the HP 0/100 and Lancaster (and the remainder of the WNW range) are held by a variety of IM manufacturers with no interest in getting into the model kit production business. On top of that, some of the sprues needed to make a complete kit (primarily engines) are held by different IM firms. The Fokker D.VII, for example, use the same engine spure as the Albatros D.V but these were made by different IM companies, so anyone wanting to re-release the D.VII would need the co-operation of two different IM companies. I'm not saying it's impossible, but because WNW was closed rather than made bankrupt the assets are unlikely to be sold off. Maybe Meng or Trumpeter can do a deal with PJ and the various Chinese IM companies involved.
  15. It's not as simple as that. WNW owed money to MENG for the work they had done, allowing them to use the moulds was part of the deal for them to re-coup their costs. From what I've heard PJ wasn't opposed to the deal as he didn't consider the Dr.I to be a 'proper' WNW kit as it had never been released under the WNW banner. The same could have been true for the HP 0/100 and Lanc, but those moulds are held by pure injection moulding companies who have no intention of moving into the kit production business. WNW was a plaything for a very rich man that was always doomed to fail if he pulled the plug. There's always a small chance that the moulds might be used again in future, but right now it seems very unlikely.

There is a difference, though, between sets being destroyed because they were not intended to be used again and sets being destroyed specifically because the Director ordered it to happen because he didn't want anyone else using them. Unless someone comes out with proof that they've bought the moulds - or PJ announces that he's re-opening WNW - the endless speculation about their future is utterly pointless.
  17. Why is everyone so salty? It was never going to be an LSP, we all deduced that as Andy would never have got that excited for an aircraft kit.

I think PJ is quite protective of his IP, he had almost all of the sets for the LotR destroyed so they couldn’t be used in other films and the full-scale Lancaster reproductions he had made for the (now dead) Dambusters film are still languishing in a warehouse in China. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he retained the molds. Honestly, I believe all these rumours about the molds resurfacing are either wishful thinking or mischief.
  19. The problem with your theory is that WNW didn’t go bankrupt, PJ closed the company so all assets remain his.

  21. PJ wouldn't even need to do that - all he'd have to do is re-open the company and hire staff as WNW didn't go bust, it was voluntarily closed.

  23. Personally I think it's more likely that the white was painted over the lozenge rather than being a total custom job. There's not much evidence of lozenge in the photos of 5125/17, but I would assume that the inside of the cockpit would still be 'interior' lozenge. As ever with WWI, it's all down to individual interpretation from period photographs so neither approach is wrong.
  24. Greg VanWyngarden ( a noted WWI aviation historian) has stated that D.VII F 5125/18 was almost certainly painted white at the Fokker factory at Goering's request.
