  1. I have started on the pilot and observer as the pilot needs to be fitted before the turtle deck. They are the Wings Cockpit Figures set. I started by cleaning up the castings, the observer in particular needed some work, one of his arms was totally hollow with just a thin veneer of resin holding the shape of the arm. I filled this void with putty. I paint figures in oils over an enamel undercoat. The figures assembled and undercoated with Tamias fine surface primer I first paint an area in enamel in the approximate colour that it will end up in, when dry I apply oil colour, remove most of it, then shade and highlight as necessarry. I start from the head and work my way down going from the inside out, so I would first paint the shirt, then jacket followed by webbing and straps etc
  2. More progress on the LVG, I got the rest of the wood grain decals on and as Eric G had scorched earth all of our LHS supplies of Tamiya clear I payed him a visit and he kindly allowed me to use his gucci workshop to shoot a coat of clear over the wood grain to seal in the decals. After a days drying I applied the WNW decals, still have to seal them and apply the panel washes but here is the progress so far. And with the engine covers temporarily attached
  3. Fantastic! Look forward to seeing more posts. Thanks Brent
  4. Awesome work!! I am really looking forward to seeing how you apply the Aviattic lozenge as I will soon be using these on my LVG and I have never applied lozenge of any brand before, any ideas from anyone would be cool!! Cheers Brent
  5. Ok, I built the J1, (see build thread on lsp) like all WnW kits she was awesome, the aerilon gap was easy to fix and due to the large span she looks impressive in the display cabinet. I would recommend the kit to anyone, especially a first time WW1 aircraft builder. IMHO Brent
  6. Great idea, AA should scale up their current range of 48 scsle airfield equipment. I would certainly get some but for many out there the cost would be prohibitive. Whats really needed is a mainstream manufacturer to make this stuff in injection moulded plastic. Tamiya killed off 32 scale vehicles in the 70's, maybe it's time for one of the new boys (kinetic, Panda, Hobbyboss etc) to step up and tap into the burgeoning 32 scale aircraft market. Cheers Brent
  7. Seems it was a problem with my 'smart' phone. Changed to my laptop and there she was!!! Awesome, grabbed one right away!!
  8. Just got on the WNW site and saw banner proclaiming Christmas Surprise Release. When I clicked on the banner what came up?? The Junkers J 1, hardly a new release!! Does anyone know whats up? Are we getting a surprise release??
  9. Nearly there Eric, push hard for the finish line!! Looking really good, you keep raising the bar, well done. PS Guys, I have seen this in the flesh and it's every bit as impressive as can be seen in the pics
  10. Thanks for the kind comments guys, To be honest I went with the Uschie decals, first because they looked good on their website and in the "Air modellers guide to WNW", but mostly after seeing James' natter in Model Military, I followed James' method exactly so I can't claim all the credit for my results so far!! Cheers Brent
  11. Thanks guys, Just a quick note on the undercoat process. First I sprayed Gunz gloss flesh then a pre-shade of gloss black, this was toned down with more flesh before I filled in the centrrs of panels with radome. Finally I masked od selected panels and painted them flesh before a coat of Tamiya clear. Matt, For the area around the observers station I cut strips of decal around 3 to 4 millimeters wide and layed them at an angle. I worked my way around each side until they met at the rear, leaving a small triangle to be filled in. If you look carefully at the pics you will see what I mean, I think it captures the effect of a laminated structure which this area of the aircraft would have been (I think so anyway) Cheers Brent
  12. Lovely work James, Love the scheme will look sweet whan complete Cheers Brent
  13. I grabbed the Wingnut LVG when it first came out, started it. did a crappy job on the interior and then consigned her to the shelf of doom where she sat until recently. I was inspired to start again when I sHi All aw reports of the excellent Uschie woodgrain decals and wanted a project to give them a try on. I obtained a set of the Wings Cockpit Figures LVG/Hannover crew which I plan to install to hide the IMHO sub standard (my fault) interior. As the aircraft would be crewed I will be fitting the engine covers, even so I wired up the motor although I wasn't to careful as to where the wires terminated on the magnetos as they won't be seen.As for using the Uschie woodgrain decals, this is not a cheat or easy way to go as a lot of prep is needed. The decals are translucent and so careful undercoating and bold (well bolder than usual) preshading is needed. The motor Panel by Panel, the Uschie decal is applied Thats all for now, more soon, Comments welcome!!
  14. Thanks James, The Aviattic decals look good, would you recommend the trimmed and joined items or the full width? Which do you think would be easier to use and more accurate? Cheers Brent
  15. Hi, I am currently building the WNW LVG and was wondering if LVG used 4 colour lozenge on the C vi? The reason I ask is that I would like to use the Old Propeller lozenge decals but they only come in 4 colour whereas Wingnut supply 5 colour with the kit. If the Old Propeller decals are a no go can anyone recommend a AM lozenge decal that is superior to the WNW item, or would the WNW decaks be the ones to use? Any advice welcome! Cheers Brent
  16. Hi, I'm in the middle of my Academy Sufa project, I went for the Wolfpack pit (awesome) Aries wheelwells (fantastic), wheeliant wheels. If you can find the Isracast sufa in Israeli service book it has all the information you will ever need. I rate the Academy kit, it fits well and to my non rivit counting eye looks like an F16i. Cheers Brent
  17. Lug it back?? Lol on that one. Seriously mate nice work, good to see her finished!! Cheers Brent
  18. Nice one Pete!!! Great work buddy
  19. I recently purchased the Revell RAF Tornado from a mate second hand. The kit was missing the clear sprue which I knew about before getting the kit (even missing parts the kit was a bargain). So I emailed Revell Germany and explained that I had obtained the kit second hand and was willing to pay for the missing parts. Revell sent out the parts free of charge, I didn't even need to pay postage. Great service Revell and thanks!!!
  20. Hi again, I paid my deposit and expected to wait until December but my kit came on Oct 1, VERY HAPPY with that!! My dream HPH kit? Boulton Paul Defiant!! Thanks HPH, worth every penny!! Cheers Brent
  21. I just received mine in the mail, awesome!! The fuse and outer wing panels are fiberglass like, with very fine engraving. The wings are hollow one peice items, no mating of top and bottom halves needed. Master brass guns, HGW belts, masks provided for all glasings and the national markings and codes for both options, decals for stencilling, Eduard colour photo etch. Expensive, yes but nothing else to purchase apart from paint and glue. Oh yeah, chocolate included!!
  22. Hi there, I hope that I haven't missed the boat on this one! If possible could you put me down for one? Cheers Brent Simpson
