danimalmagic Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 (edited) This will be my first WIP project on this forum. I have spent the last year slowly building up the parts I wanted, kit will be comprised as follows. This build will be my main job for the summer as i am expecting it to take 3 months atleast. 1/32 Academy F-16I SUFA Storm, Isradecals Publications F-16I SUFA, Wolfpack Cockpit Set, Wolfpack Exterior Set, Aires Landing Gear Bays, Eduard Ejection Seat Etch and Wheeliant Wheels. 1st of all i have to say what a great kit, the detail is fantastic and there are standard options though not included in the instructions to build a standard F-16D and the F-16D Barak with minor modifications to the spine, both variations of intake and engine nozzle included. Plenty of extra ordnance as well, including a rather nice Sniper XR Pod, all in all allot of kit for your money. I have started with the cockpit resin, the level of detail is amazing and it fits straight into the body on the standard lugs with no fitting required, I like that. danimalmagic Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 Tub Painted, all Tamiya Acrylic and a wash.
danimalmagic Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 Cockpit Sides and Seats with a few bits of etch added.
danimalmagic Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 With the cockpit painted it could be glued in place along with the resin wheel bays. From there the top and bottom halves could be joined together with the wings, very minor filling. I have added most of the Wolfpack update set though there are a few bits that will go on further down the road. The Conformal Fuel Tanks need real care when fixing in place, i used some blue tack and bits of sprue to act as guides to locate the tanks in place so as not to get glue everywhere.
danimalmagic Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 Next up is the spraying, i am not going to pre shade as i have a whole book full of colour reference pictures that show these to be very clean aircraft all considering. There is some variation but this will be best done by post shading. 1st of all the base areas were sprayed with XF-59 dark yellow, this will provide the darker base for the panel lines. Next up a filter of XF-57 Buff applied to the required panels, the same process was done for the tail.
danimalmagic Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 Next up the light green base XF-71 followed up with the XF-21 filter.
danimalmagic Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 This is up to date, allot of time spent in the spray booth to get this far, post shading this time around with various filters to age her just a little bit. The bottom of the craft was done much the same way. I had to re think the darker brown shade as it was not correct, it is more of a caramel colour, I did some test sprays on white paper and matched them to my reference material until I was happy. Colour Summary Green Base coat XF-71 with XF-21 filter applied to all panels. Mixture was then lightened with a few drops of white and applied the odd area here and there for a bit of variation. Brown Base Coat XF-9 with XF-79 filter applied to all panels, this was given a few drops of mat yellow, about 10:1. Sand Base Coat XF-59 with XF-57 filter applied to all panels, this was further thinned down with the addition of a few drops of white. Grey Base Coat XF-66 with XF-83 filter applied to all panels, XF-83 seems spot on for Light Ghost Grey. Proof of the pudding will be when the wash is on. Derek B and Rainer Hoffmann 2
