Why would they have tarps on the wings:

no doubt they would be removed before flight.

 

edit: here is another photo that have rudder covers on them to make them less colourful on the deck:

Note the non-uniform placement of the national insignia on those F4F's in that 2nd photo.

Thanks Dana, i kind of figured it had something to do with covering things up. Reminds me when i was stationed in West Germany, they said we should not have any white on our ball caps lest a MiG flying at 500kts at 200ft would see it and attack the base, not seeing all the green buildings, the long concrete runway, taxiways and dispersals.
