Need help for P-40N Cowling stenciling

Recommended Posts

Hello

I am working on P-40 Geronimo and need help for clarifying the stencils on the left cowling panel.

Do you know what is the writing on the indicated stencils ?

My kit decal sheet has no stencils and I would like to install these stencils which are visible on the light tone of sand-desert pink.

Thanks in advance

Interesting picture.  Was the desert sand topside painted in the field?  Almost looks like whoever painted it simply masked off the original stencils since each one appears to be against a darker, presumably OD, background.

Yes exactly, od background is visible.

the"stencils" were in reality decalcomania which had black lettering on clear background.

They were applied on "Army camouflage" (OD41+ fringe Medium Green 42/ Neutral gray 43)

the two little doors on port side of bottom cowl : oil - heating

and on the rear cowl above the front wing fillet: coolant drain

I hope the factory first applied a thorough coating of Future.   If there was any silvering, there would be hell to pay.
