I've Googled until my eyes are crossed, and have still not been able to find a real good shot of the AIM-9E (preferably without seeker cover in place), can anyone please help out?

Thanks a bunch,

Any one of these will be great, so thanks a bunch. The review that I'm currently writing on the new F-5, shows front canards for what is supposed to be an AIM-9E, but seem much more consistent with the AIM-9L or 9M Sidewinders.

Right, that's what I determined, the kit missiles are either AIM-9L/M's misidentified as AIM-9E's, or AIM-9E's with incorrect forward canards, and I know not which.

Similar in appearance:

AIM-9B lead sulphide uncooled, used by everyone

AIM-9C SARH version used by F-8 Crusader, since modified to passive radar homing AGM-122 Sidearm

AIM-9D/G/H Naval (and British bought) nitrogen gas cooled variants, later with radar cueing (SEAM)

AIM-9E USAF and FMS thermoelectric Peltier effect cooled

AIM-9J/P/N USAF and FMS outgrowths of the 'E

AIM-9L/M all-aspect and used by everyone, most using Nitrogen cooling but USAF uses Argon gas cooling

AIM-9X latest whoosh-bang used by evryone who can afford it unless they prefer AIM-132, Python 4 etc.
