Daywalker
Cheers Pete, very intriguing idea! Would you have any photos showing the effect with this method? I am curious as to how it looks.
Pete
I'll see what I can do for you I've never uploaded a photo on to here (not very technologically minded), but I'll give it a try later as I'm building an F-4 at the moment & have just finished experimenting with this method. Have to say I'm VERY happy with the effect
LSP_Kevin
Pete, I take it you use thin sections of steel wool, teased out of the large wad? Kev
Pete
Yes, exactly Kev Pull at the steel wool till its you can see through it very well, pretty much able to see the individual fibres, & the surface underneath you need several applications so the effect just builds up slowly & lightly I know there are other methods for this for those of you who are much more talented than me But for us mere mortals this is a foolproof way for us to build this effect in

dashotgun
I used this: http://www.liquitex.com/Ink/ in Burnt Umber and other darker brown colors for my exhaust staining...followed by a little Tamiya Smoke. Examples: wow just wow I ran out and found some of the burnt umber at AC moore but none of the solvent what are you using to clean and dilute it? Collin
I believe I shot that ink straight from the bottle. Collin
Hogzilla
One source of local pigments which should not be over looked is women's cosmetics over future and sealed with a fixative. I haven't tried this approach because I don't wish to come on as a perv but those having a woman in the household may already have the stuff available to beg, borrow or steal.
