Dave Williams Posted September 15, 2024 Posted September 15, 2024 I’ve decided to give the Meng AH-64D kit a try. This one will be a U.S. Army aircraft from OIF in 2003, specifically 99-5135 from the 1st Cavalry (Option B in the kit decals). This is the AH-64D that was “shot down” by an Iraqi farmer with a bolt action rifle and landed pretty much intact with the pilots captured. The action was actually a planned Iraqi ambush that damaged almost all of the AH-64s involved in the action. I’ve looked at various video and stills from the Iraqi TV showing the aircraft to try to replicate the loadout. The aircraft was destroyed a couple of days later by a U.S. LGB. Dave Williams Posted September 15, 2024 Author Posted September 15, 2024 Anyway, here’s the obligatory box shot of the kit. Additions will be the Quinta cockpit set and the Kopecky exhausts. Alex 1
Dave Williams Posted September 15, 2024 Author Posted September 15, 2024 To try to address the issue with center glass between the cockpits interfering with the fit of the canopy, I hollowed out the groove in the pilot’s IP shroud and “notched” the corners to let the glass sit a little lower. Hopefully that will work. Landrotten Highlander, BradG, Alex and 6 others 9
Uncarina Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 Nice move Dave! I never thought of that. Cheers, Tom
