Today I started on my Revell 1/32 F-4E. It's the F-4G kit but as most know it comes with all parts required to make an F-4E. I will finish it as one of the 32nd TFS Phantoms. As a teenager I spent a good amount of time along the fence of Soesterberg air base and watch them take off, land, and taxi. It was awesome. And it was....1978! Oh my. I'm....old. The Quinta studios cockpit set and Reskit exhausts (designed for Revell), wheels, and AIM-9Js are underway. In the mean time I started with the seats. I will use the kit seats and dress them up a bit. The Quinta set already gives them an immense boost but I will add a few bits as well. A small start but there it is. The one thing in the Quinta set I am not too fond of are the ejection pull-rings so I will try to use the kit ones. I seperated them for easier painting. I also scraped off the molded-on seat belts off the seats and gave them a quick paint. I know there is a lot of comment about the shape of the nose (supposedly "corrected for the F-4G kit), but I'm not sure I am going to bother with a replacement. Maybe I'll sand off some styrene on the top but to my eye it's not so bad. It's quite a beast when taped together! Cheers!

Hi everyone, This is the Revell 1/32 F-4E kit with some aftermarket help from GT Resin in the form of exhausts, belly strap and intakes, new nose from Sierra Hotel, Aim-9Js from Cutting Edge and a cockpit from Legend. The aim was to depict a late 70's USAFE jet from the 50TFW at Hahn AFB using AirDoc decals, put her in-flight and add some lighting to bring her to life. This was sort of a learning project for me, picking up on the excellent tips found in this forum, trying out some new techniques and learning from my mistakes (of which I made a few - see build for details!). In the end it took 2 and a half years to complete so the ratio of builds to acquires is way out of kilter. Anyway, on to the pics... And with lights on... Overall, a challenging but fun build of the impressive Phantom! Hi all! One reason why my Corsair build has slowed down is that I have taken part in a Facebook group build. The subject is the world famous F-4 Phantom II. For my build I decided to use Revell's 1/32 F-4F kit to depict a worn out Greek F-4E SRA with I will also be using the following aftermarket detail sets: Legend's resin F-4E cockpit Real Model's resin slatted stabilizers GT Resin's exhausts DEF Model's resin wheels and FOD covers Eduard's placards Airscale's dataplates and instruments

Hi, My name is Richie and I love the smell of burnt kerosene. Having spent many hours viewing the absolute masterpieces on this site and trying to hoover up as much inspiration as I can, I've decided to take the plunge and commit my effort to the wider community in an attempt to improve my game. As way of background I suffer from: a - an over-ambitious build programme that would require the invention of time travel to complete my collection. b - a lack of resistance to nice new shiny decals (that adds to the first issue). c - an inability to recognise that OOB is just fine in most cases. d - the view that 50 Shades of Grey is the epitome of panel weathering. e - a lack of sufficient minutes in the day to fit everything in (work, family, plastic fettling etc) I am also an Optimistic 80%er. By that I mean I will endeavour to add detail/changes when it makes a noticeable difference but lack of skills / patience may ultimately limit my AMS ambition to a level of ‘Good Enough'. And so to the challenge, a 1/32 Revell F-4E. This is going to be only my 2nd 1/32 effort, the first being a Revell Hawk T1, but my first on-line build. Not entirely sure of the markings yet but it will probably be an early USAFE bird in Vietnam c/s. True to form I have acquired more aftermarket stuff than I really need including: - GT Resin Intakes and Exhausts - SH replacement nose - CE Aim 9J/P - Legend F-4E Cockpit - Eduard PE - Master Details Pilot figure - Master Pitot Probes As if first night nerves wasn't enough, it will also be the first time I have used a lot of this stuff and just to make it more interesting I'm going to put her in flight and light her up. This may get ugly. For those who like their builds quick and dirty, sorry but this is going to be a slow burn (but probably dirty!). Very happy for comments, suggestions, advice etc but don't be offended if I do something different or not quite true to life, as they say art is in the eye of the beholder. Oh, and as a cautionary tale to others I will also be keeping an catalogue of errors of all the mistakes I make. Lets hope it stays in double figures! Game on.

I expect these to return from Cartograf on Monday or Tuesday, so I should be able to ship by Wednesday. I will turn on the ordering links as soon as soon I check the quality of the printing. This sheet includes stencil markings for the F-4C, F-4D, F-4E, RF-4C, and F-4G in 1/32. It is applicable to mid-1980s and later, as it applies to the SEA wraparound, Euro 1, and Hill I/II gray camouflage schemes. Since these markings varied so much from squadron to squadron, and even jet to jet, I tried to include a variety of styles/fonts/sizes of the most common types of stencils. Ok, I really shouldn't be starting this, what with everything else on my bench at the moment but I couldn't resist. Ignore the EJ bit on the box. It's the same inside as the regular USAF boxing but I've been able to get these for much cheaper for whatever reason. I've got a bunch of AM and I'm planning to use Speedhunter decals and various paint masks for the markings. For underwing stores, while not 100% accurate, I'm planning to hang these underneath: Yup, three SUU-23A gun pods. Carl

Gentlemen, The start of my 32nd scale F-86D being imminent, I'm already pondering over my next project. I've built a good many of F-4s in both 72nd and 48th scale, but now I've got a notion it's highest time for a large scale Phantom II. So far I've got a TAMIYA F-4E plus "tons" of aftermarket stuff from Cutting Edge, GT Resin, DMolds, Steel Beach, Master, Eduard/Brassin, Wingman Models et al. I've always wanted to build a Keflavik-based 57th FIS F-4E in posh "ADC Grey" aka FS 16473 Aircraft Grey livery. However, pretty much the same goes for a JG 71 "Richthofen" F-4F sporting the notorious experimental "Wolkenmaus" wrap-around scheme. Much to my regret, it's rather a matter of "either...or" than "both...and". The "contenders" are... 57th FIS F-4E, Keflavik, Iceland, 1978: JG 71 F-4F 37+51, Wittmund, 1976: What do you think? Which of the two would be the one you'd fancy most? I'm totally on the fence...seriously. TIA Erik

Here is a picture of the 1st USAFE, ARN-101 modified F-4E. It was modified at Zweibrucken AB in 1979-1980 by Lear Seigler. I personally did most of the mod work in the aft cockpit and then accomplished the operational testing. As my "reward" I was afforded the honors of riding "shotgun" on the engine runs. The engines had been removed and "pickled" due to the duration of the mod time. About 30 seconds after this picture was snapped the entire aircraft was shrouded in white smoke from the burn off of the pickling (preservative) fluid. It was the first "green" engine run I had been on and for a moment I was awaiting the FIRE annunicator to illuminate! The aircraft was a Hahn AB (HB) asset but when it was returned to service it was transferred to Spangdahlem AB (SP) and became member of a "Hunter, Killer" team of an F-4G and F-4E. Barry

I had the opportunity to spend some time with the folks from Sierra Hotel Models while attending the IPMS Nats. Great folks all; Michael, Patrick, Casey and Rich. Unfortunately Erik was unable to attend so maybe next time. Here are some photos of their “revised†Intake/Ramp set for the latest tool Revell F/RF-4C/E/F. I say revised because they have replaced the engine “face†with a newly tooled piece.The new piece is totally redesigned with blades set for the proper direction of rotation CSIDG “bullet†fairing and support struts. The detail is IMO totally awesome see for yourself. I have included a couple of pictures of both the new on left and the original offering. Exhaust Nozzles and AB Section in next post
