  1. Because, as discussed already in this thread, it makes sense for a new company to start off with a big moneyspinner Richard
  2. Ok, marking my position first - I like making things, I particularly like scratchbuilding and modifying things, so I'm probably not the intended target for the printed decals. From what I have seen so far, they are very nicely done with exquisite detail. Much better than I was expecting. For me, they are rather toy like. Bright, even colours and with the same overall finish. I'm waiting to see someone brave enough to install a set then rough it up a bit. Lose the gloss finish that isn't at all right for a black panel, get some wear onto the edges, work some dirt into them. That could be a big step if you aren't happy painting panels Richard
  3. Much excitement - the Blackbird Hunter set has arrived! One small bore exhaust, a pair of leading edges, a pair of wingtips and a pair of flaps. So, how is the fit: In plan, not bad. The wingtip is short because this is an early kit with the wrong ailerons. The resin tip shows where the aileron should end. The leading edge is a little short, nothing too hard to fix This is a little bit more challenging and is going to need a bit of thought. Initial fiddling suggests it will probably work with a bit of persistence And the back end: Can't argue with that! This side I need to do a bit more on the locating spigot. What is surprising (and pleasing) is all of the necessary panels lines for an F4 are on the fuselage even though many are covered by the parachute fairing The flaps - I now have etched, resin and plastic flaps. I'm intending to model them closed, so I suspect I'll go with the Revell parts All this for £15 - bargain! Richard
  4. 146lb is a small person - you've stopped carrying around another human being! Richard
  5. Little bits of plastic and some more etch: Richard
  6. There are two of them, sort of round with a little nubbly bit in the middle. Reminds me of something
  7. It must be my age - I was just thinking what a good picture that is of the wheel wells...
  8. On the electric television currently is an advert for someone 'wanting to become an engineer' through some scheme or other. In one part she is clearly using a ratchet spanner, putting it onto a bolt on a machine and turning it the wrong way. It makes a lovely clicking noise and that's all Photographers no nothing about engineering Richard
  9. And another question: Are those bomb winches available as AM from anywhere? I could do with three Richard
  10. Seeing how WNW models may be being bought as 'investments', that seems very appropriate Richard
  11. For 'suds' it's very precise - all on the door and the side of the wheel and tyre, none on the tread or the floor Looks like white paint to me! Richard
  12. Presumably this is so they could scramble to intercept Soviet aircraft during the Cold War. Being so close to the bloc, they wouldn't have much time to get airborne. Hence the engine spool up in the hangar and dropping off the 'plane at speed I also wonder if that right turn after release from the tow truck is intentional - if the engine wasn't running up correctly the pilot could coast straight ahead clearing the path for his wingman to get airborne Meanwhile, fun with photoetch! I love photo etch Richard
  13. OK, I'm in. I'm hoping to have a bit of a mojo reboot with this one I've got a huge blue, top-opening box of plastic, some Flightpath stuff on the way, Moose Republic decals in the post and a resin tailpipe being delivered. There's a book out there in delivery space too With a bit of luck, and with not too many references available, I'm hoping to recapture some of my teenage joy in building models with this one Richard Question - what is the AWACS plane at 2:06?
  14. Yep - that's what I have. Scribing, filling and gouging required Richard
  15. That's the one I have - thank you OK, so the cockpit fit is fine, the ailerons are wrong! I'll go and check the parts Thank you Tony Richard
  16. That would be the 04727 kit from 2006, my kit if from 1998 I guess it would help if I knew what the problem actually is! Richard
  17. So, I've picked up an oid kit from Kingkit, it is the 04703 FGA.9/MK.58 version. Reading around this kit, I came across something here about cockpit fit problems and how they were fixed in later boxings. Have I picked up a version with the problem (whatever it is) and how is it overcome? Richard
  18. I think so, although I haven't found a decent rigging diagram so far. I'm guessing it's the same as a Blackburn Heavy Richard
  19. Cancel that - I cracked and bought a set Richard
  20. Yes - apologies. I forgot we had already been around this loop a few times, I accidentally dropped into one of your threads. Richard
  21. Bear in mind, this is a picture taken by a photographer, not a candid snap. The subjects will have been chosen for the shot An aside - did ground crew really paint slogans on bombs and shells? Or were they added by the photographer to make a better picture? My money is on option 2 Richard
  22. It's because they are hosted on an HTTP website Richard
