  1. Bit more done tonight. Compared to the chore of builing Revell's 72nd scale Memphis Belle this so far is a dream. I love kits like this that as you build the sprues start to fit back in the box. How I'm going to manage to paint the old girl once she's assembled is daunting. So is having to use filler with this many rivets. Little bit of artistic licence on the bottle on the oxygen tanks. At first I thought it was a fire extinguisher but while painting I thought it could be a portable oxygen cylinder and probably should be painted yellow. But I'm not changing it now.
  2. Bit more done tonight. Why do I buy fabric seatbelts thinking yeah they'll be great. Then spend 3 hours swearing and loosing parts. Then when ive finished saying yes they look good but I'm never doing them again.... Every WWII plane i buy ends up with fabric belts. I never learn. Everything is clean and shiny looking as it's waiting for the gloss to harden before weathering... Oh and some artistic licence on the side panels. Used tissue paper and beige paint.
  3. It's painted on. Mixed up a base colour then dabbed Revell 84 (leather brown) and 85 (brown) on with a cocktail stick. Then used an old hardened brush to drag paint in direction of grain then used a large drybrush to soften it up. Then I went back and put some knots it with the leather brown and cocktail stick. I'm pleased with it so far. I've also made some cushions for the seats and put some kitchen paper on the sidewalls where the quilted effect is.
  4. So after a few hours last night and tonight. I'm here with her. Added some Milliput around the base of the control sticks. But all OOB so far. Need to varnish and weather later on.
  5. I'm hoping to. I couldn't decide whether to build this or the A-10 I've recently gotten hold of.
  6. She's a big bird. Quite daunting when you see the size. But I'll take it bit by bit same as any other model. Paint call-outs seem to be a little off on the inside. As it's the Sally-B she's not going to historically accurate. Bit of a mix of wartime painting inside and how she is now. Made a start on her last night. Just a bit of paint work and some prep work removing ejection pin marks. I'm going to be using Kitsworld stencils and decals. Plus some Eduard seat belts. I may buy the Gun Barrels from Master later on. But she's going to be wall mounted with 2 fighter escorts.
  7. Thanks Tony I thought it might be referring to the wing folds or lack thereof on some of them.
  8. Without appearing a bit dense. What's a hard wing?
  9. To yet re-resurrect the thread. Stunning work. I shall be holding on to this for inspiration in my upcoming G build. I'm going for Sally-B in her current guise with one side as the Belle.
  10. Stunning work. Ive got my eye on one so I might pinch a few ideas if I may.
  11. I do have a Spit in the same scheme. I'm on the lookout for a Hurricane too. The story behind the colour scheme is really interesting though. Flt Lt James Nicolson was the only fighter command pilot to receive the Victoria Cross in the Battle of Britain. He'd shot down a ME109 but in the process he was wounded. He was in the process of bailing out when he saw another german fighter. So he climbed back into the seat and shot down the second fighter and then bailed out. When he landed he was fired upon by the homeguard despite him protesting that he was an RAF pilot.
  12. I wouldn't mind another go at one. But SWMBO said i can't have more than one of each plane. :-( Spoilsport. But it keeps us both happy lol.
  13. She's finally done. Saw the Eurofighter demo at Swansea bay Airshow last weekend. Stunning aircraft and so quick to change direction. Incredible noise and sight. Seeing one flying 500m in the air flying at full reheat is something that makes your ears bleed but it's worth it. I was surprised at how visible the kink in the wing is. The decals weren't great they became a bit flaky under the varnish and lifted so I had to repaint the roundel on one side. Lettering peeled on the other side so I had to mask and re-paint. I dropped the thing at one point and the nose tip broke off and got lost. Had to make a new one out of Milliput. Has Aires wheel wells and cockpit. FOD covers were scratch built (The extent of my scratch building capabilities for now) from plasticard and staples.

    F-18

Eduard do a PE avionics bay.
  15. I've got a Revell F-4F which i want to very loosely convert to an F-4J for my father in law. I know i need to cut some of the nose off the kit as it's quite long and narrow. Does anyone do a replacement nose for an F-4j in resin? He like the Phantom but he just knows the shape.
  16. They look great. I think i may have to invest in some. Are they weighted?

    F-18

Revell have one later this year. But at the moment just Trumpeter for the Super.
  18. I'd love a set for Raf Bentwaters
  19. Now I'm torn between a spliter agressor or this bird. Thanks Jake :-p
  20. Cake? Did someone say cake? I can do them too. I'm a dab hand a vegan chocolate cake too as my youngest is allergic to milk and eggs.
  21. She's nearly done. Major disaster averted after dropping her on her nose and snapping the tip off (ooh er missus). Milliput and some careful sanding remedied that. Then a minor disaster with the decals on the side with the coding. Masked off to spray the airbrake which i hadn't fitted. They all came off on one side. So a mad scramble to trace the other side and create a mask. It worked 😀. The covers are scratch built using plasticard and staples. Now just the final odds and sods including wheels and out ler undercarriage doors and she's done. Just in time for the new display season. Wonder what colours they'll use this year.
  22. Fishbone has already stated what he can do for us. I'm tempted by his offer with a mask for wings.
