  1. Still waiting on the harness. Here's the panel...rush job #>
  2. Thanks Mike. I planned on that much. As well I've found aftermarket harnesses from MDC. When I get a sample set I'll review them here (as well as slap 'em on this Hurri).
  3. Big one I can think of is the small triangular windows under the windscreen. Here's Mr Whiple's Bf109F-4 using the Aires conversion...good info there. And here's a good walkaround resource for Gs and Fs... The Lair I don't know the particulars too well, but I have profiles of the G-2 and F-4 I can send you if you need em. Cheers! And welcome to LSP! #>
  4. Thanks all, The kit is the old (early) airfix Hurri, going strictly OOB with the exception of a scratched harness (unless someone can point me to an aftermarket set?????). #> Client doesn't want any hatches open, she'll be static. I might do the Merlin separately and mount it for him, it IS that good. Maybe add some wiring, might need another set of stacks...hmm. Interesting bit about the seat but I'm going to keep the build brisk with few resources/referances. Not going to go too crazy here as the client is not a rivet counter and is much more attached to a good weathering pass and specific markings (401 Squadron). Paints are all polyscale Acrylics with some MM Enamels for instruments etc. All chipping is the trusty old Prismacolor pencil. I'll post more pics early in the week when I finish the panel and mate the fuse halves. Going to do the wheel wells in silver and I'll be set to paint by next weekend.
  5. more interior. Once I get the harness in and instrument panel done I'll slap it all together, mate the fuse halves and then start the fun part #>
  6. Here are a couple shots of the interior so far. Building this for a "client" at the office.
  7. Bad news first. That camera has no macro function (close ups) at all. From the research Ive just done it looks like the CLOSEST you can be to subject matter that you want in focus is 4 feet. This explains a lot about the bald eagle shots as well, the back ground (about 4 feet away) is in focus while the model is not. Good news next: The camera is pretty high resolution so if you don't mind not getting shots of the cockpit or details, you should be able to take PERFECT pictures of the kit from 4 feet and crop the pictures down. In fact you can send them to Brad or I and we can crop them for you. I believe that camera has a max width of 1600 pixles and we publish at a width of 545 pixles. That leaves a lot of room to crop off the stuff that's not a plane #> Do me a favor please? Take a picture of Bald eagle at 4 feet out and send it to me. csherland@charter.net and I'll toy with it a bit and see if I can come up with a good method for you to get better results. Question about the Jug: That is the kit engine, please please tell me how you did the push rods and wiring harness! It's a snap on the Teknics, but looked like a bear on the Revell...curious minds!!! Cheers~
  8. Looks like it's coming along nicely, although I wish I could see the work a bit better. Are you using a digital camera? If so maybe I can pass on a couple of tips on focus and re-sizing? Let me know, I'd really like to see her in all her glory! Cheers~
  9. Nice Viper so far. Questio: When you say "music wire" are you talking about piano/guitar string? And if so, the non-wound type I imagine yes? Also do I see some panel shading on the upper surface there? Nice touch, not over done. Keep posting!! Cheers~
  10. In Aero Detail #12 Hawker Hurricane there are 3 restored Hurricanes featured. 2 of them look like they have underside color used in the wheelbay and one is straight silver. I think I'm going to go with silver in order to retain a bit of contrast. Thanks for the help guys~
  11. Some look to be "Sky Type S," some silver painted, some 1/2 black and 1/2 white but they all look like they are painted the same color as the underside of the ship. Can any Hurri gurus out there lend a hand? I'm building the Airfix 1/24 and need to get the wheel wells painted so I can get the final construction done. TIA~
  12. I have PW, Rolls Royce, and Allison plackards from a great Liveries Unlimited sheet I found through this board a few weeks ago. I could let a couple go, let me know what you need. I don't have any propeller stencils though #> Also you can get the sheet here for about $5 USD (great service too) http://www.airline-hobby.com/
  13. You're correct. It was a common practice for most land-based fighters op'ing from unimproved strips like grass, coral, sand etc. I have never seen them used on carriers of the time.
  14. Nothing has been made for that kit yet that I know of. However some companies make 1/24 harneses (MDC etc) but I'm not sure if any are specifically IJN. Wine bottle lead foil works great in that scale, buckles can be made from thin guage wire or solder. Wish I could be of more help. Regardles, welcome to the big scale (where you can still build model airplanes while wearing perscription eyeglasses!) Cheers~
  15. FYI: Jerry's new website is here: http://jrutman.playnet.com
  16. Ohhhh no ya don't , not so fast...you cannot begin a new project until we see pics of that finished Warhawk! #>
  17. Looking great...might have the angle slightly wrong on those landing gear though #> (kidding)
  18. That's better! I like the "battle damage effect" you're going for there too #> (kidding) I have always liked the non fillited Mustang (and Thunderbolt) myself. While they may have lacked some lateral stability WE don't have to worry about that, and they look cleaner to me. Looking great so far! Cheers~
  19. Well then...you know what you have to do right? Choppeth thine fillet outeth!
  20. Just saw the G-6 and G-2 in the flesh at the local haunt. All I can say is that I am sold. What I saw in that box was refined, well tooled and extensive. High quality looking pour with NO flashing on ANY sprues, and in the look I had I could not locate a sink mark at all. Going to be grabbing a G-2 off of Luckymodel.com while the LSP special is running. I'll get a review together when I get the kit in hand. Cheers~
  21. Thanks Dave! Will be using Polyscale, but my local shop has both, so I'll be able to match no problem. Cheers~
  22. Bulges were to support the 12.7 guns...from the G-5 onward. The cowl guns on the G-4 SHOULD BE DIFFERENT LENGTHS as should all Bf109 cowl guns up to G-5 when the MG 17 (7.9) was replaced with the MG 131 (12.7). Easy way to think about this one is that bulges = 12.7 guns = even spacing. Any "smooth nosed" 109 used the MG 17s and had them staggered.
  23. Tony, Foil is a combo. I started out with BMF for the wings, stabilizers, rudder, tank, and gear doors. But I switched to houshold foil for the fin and fuselage and I am never going back to BMF. This job is really a test for me. The whole ship is OOB and only to get foiling skills up and running for the Rutman Jugs (which are on hold until I am a foiling master #>). I might be on to a technique for applying the adheasive onto kitchen foil that I have not seen mentioned. It seems to be working great for me.... I use a thick brush to "plop" generous ammounts of the adheasive (Microscale Metal Foil Adheasive) on to the dull side of the foil, then spread it with a credit card. This eliminates all brush-strokes in the adheasive (which cannot be burnished out) and insures an even and VERY thin coat of adheasive. I'll post some more pics next weekend as I'll be out of town this week. Cheers~
  24. I can't get away from these things! Big Jugs have me trapped in my own home! Two more nights with foil, then paint/decals/weathering. Teetering between 78th FG ship "No Guts No Glory" or a 9th AF ship ("Big Ass Bird II", "Look No Hands", or "Dorothy K")...any suggestions?
