LSP_Matt
Rigto... Seeing as cockpit detail sets got the kybosh by the boss the P47D will have to wait. A review of the stash yielded this nugget. I'd built this kit twice as a lad so when I scored it on Ebay it was a sentimental purchase ( but at least not an expensive one) I'm gathering and reviwing Ref info as my main focus to date has been 109G's...I know nahzzing about ze 109F. Ah yes..the box art...twas a fine year...1967 hehe

Ian A
I've been wondering about that box art, having built the kit as a kid and not thought about it but added it to the stash from e bay a while back. Friedrichs and Heinkels over Dover with a Hurricane coming in? Ambience of August or September '40. But that would be Emils. For a Friedrich it should be Spits and Blenheims going the other way in Summer 41, with the Me doing the bouncing. Or am I wrong. Funny the things you don't think about when you're a kid! Look forward to seeing the build. ian
Erwin
Hi Matt, A very nice entry. Don't you just love those old Revell boxes ! Note with swastika !

The comment says it to be a Emil. But when you look at the airfilter it is clearly not an Emil square one but a later F type filter. It also carries the eagle's head. So it might be that at the very end of the battle F's were in combat over England.
LSP_Matt
I have to check my dates Erwin. The plane in the picture is that of Molders. He was flying the Me109F according to some sources in October 1940 in that part of the world. There were recorded deliveries of 109F's to front line units in that time frame so I guess its possible...wether its probable is another question. Going through my refs ATM ( in between all sorts of other goings on) to try and see how the Revell kit stacks up for shape and overall detail. Yeah...the whole no swastika thing on Ebay, irrespective of the item and such just seems ridiculous to me. I have no respect for the people who create/implement/monitor those types of rules. I just dont see the point given the history of the world past and present. Cheers Matty
LSP_Matt
OK...decided on a paint scheme as my kit was missing decals and instructions. No matter as I had some decals in the stash and some instructions left over from the kits I'd done as a kid. Do you guys keep all the instructions from kits you've done? I've got nearly every kit I've ever made in a folder. Funny that The scheme I'll do is number 4. Its from the awesome Eagle Strike 32042 Augsburg Flyers BF-109F Pt VII Cheers lads Matty
LSP_Matt
Alrighty...I went looking for plans and found them at Lynns 109 Lair where you can find all sorts of good info. Go to Drawings->109F->F4 trop I have no idea on what the correct method is for upsizing plans you have digitized. Of course I understand the percentages if the plans are scale drawings...but is there a method ( other than bucket chemistry...trial and error ) for getting it right the first time. Maybe I was too tired to think straight. Anyhoo, this is what I came up with on the fusleage...have a geezer and if you feel like making comments/criticisms go right ahead sorry for my barely legible scawl... F's escorted Heinkels over the coast at Dover many times and were more than likely attacked by Hurricanes in the process. M M ...Thanks for posting both sides of the box Matty. That was the first 1/32 scale kit I built. Even painted it with the ridiculously incorrect grey/green combination
one0nine
No less a personality than Maj. Werner Mölders scored the first victories for the new F on 22 October 1940, downing aeither one or three Hurricanes (depending on which source you read) on a "freie Jagd" north of Maidstone while flying Bf 109F-0 WNr 5628 (Stkz SG+GW, overpainted and marked with Geschwaderkommodore chevrons <-+-). So, if you're looking to do a genuine BoB 109F, it did exist. By the way, there was one unique thing about Mölders bird which I've not seen on any other F model to date... it had the same riveted reinforcement strip along the wing root fairing on the fuselage as the earlier Emil model. I cannot explain why, but I have multiple photos showing this. Quick notes on the F-0, for those interested: it was fitted with a drum-fed MG-FF centerline cannon in the cockpit, covered by a canvas bag with a leather-reinforced zipper. It also had simple bulbs in the wingtip nav light recesses, no clear aerodynamic covers; no reinforcement strips at fuselage station 9; squared-off outer wheel well edges; and no 90 degree bend in the port exhaust shield as with later 109Fs and Gs. Oh, and the F model had a seat that was a mix of the E and G... it was a separate item with a back like the Emil, but the seat pan was sort of squared off like the Gustav. Get at it, Matty, let's see you whoop that sucker into shape! Lynn PS: Color scheme 71/02 over 65, yellow nose... just like an Emil.

So it might be that at the very end of the battle F's were in combat over England. Quite aside from its cylindrical supercharger intake, which in principle could have been adapted to an E, the aircraft in that photo can be identified certainly as an F by its combination of a shallow undercowl oil-cooler fairing with wide, shallow underwing radiator intakes and large exit doors/landing flaps at the rear of the underwing radiator fairings.
