Aviacom
I'm doing an FG-1 from the Tamiya F4U-1D kit. I've decided on an aircraft from VMF-213 (Number 115). WHat i'd like to know is, obviously it uses 'Insignia White' for all the National Marking's, but, the 'White' for the Tail, Wing, and Code Numbers for the Unit Markings - Was that 'Insignia White' or just 'Plain White'? How confusing!! Cheers
MikeMaben
According to 'The Official Monogram U.S. Navy & Marine Corps Aircraft Color Guide, Vol.2" pgs. 116 thru 120, the tail and wing markings were just White.

When I started painting real aircraft back in the mid 80's up until then I thought white was white - LOL - then I looked at the imron color chart and realized there were 15-20 different shades or tones of white... D.B. Andrus
WW II Insignia White has a slightly "warm"(yellowish)cast to it. Most white model paints I've used have been "cool"(blueish)in appearance. YRMV, Damian ctayfor
