  1. MORE MASKING AND PAINT I must have used a mile of masking tape on this build and my time spent masking has surpassed actual build time. So here we go. Position of the art before cutting the masks. Cowling and scallop painted. Results not as I hoped with mask lifting where the scalloped edge joined the straight edge. Will attempt to clean/blend the edges. The port side scallop will be covered with nose art. So I will only need to focus on the starboard side. Masks cut for ID Bands. Using Radu Brizan's 1:32 scale ruler the 12" is for the rudder and the 15" is for the stabilizers. ID Bands are Tamiya NATO Black. Fin Filet is dry fitted. Will address the rudder lines next. Next will be cleaning the scallop edges, rudder lines, replace the windscreen then hit with varnish for decal prep.
  2. REPAINT COMPLETE Following some coaching I thinned down Mr. Color RLM 74/75 4:1 at 18psi yielded much better results. Each mottle required several passes. Thank you Jim Hatch. Apologizes for the crummy iPhone pics. This is the what I am trying to achieve. Added some mottle along the fuselage and cowling as the photos of actual plane showed more mottle. On deck is varnish, decals (HGW Wet Transfers), landing gear and drop tank.
  3. Anyone have experience using HGW Wet Transfers? With a wash? AK Interactive, Florys, MiG? Thanks for any feedback. Rick
  4. Love the scheme.....want.
  5. Thanks Mal. One seatbelt may be draped over the cockpit edge, not decided yet.
  6. it's a Luftwaffe 600 liter drop tank: homework is ongoing Phil.
  7. IT'S NOT A TORPEDO CMK's Luftwaffe 600l Drop Tank gets a dry fit. Looks badass. Wash of RLM 76 to come.
  8. PAINT UPPER Using Mr. Color RLM74 and RLM75 diluted 3:1 upper camo is applied. It was late...think Paint 0030. Decided to get a little creative with the mottle. Must have been the lacquer fumes. Final results, NOPE! Repaint black base. New application of RLM 76
  9. M10's got a pass of Mr. Color OD.
  10. that's a shame..... good to see you last night.
  11. Merci. Thanks Peter. Thanks Alan. Hope to have her done by mid March.
  12. Interesting pic. I have about 4 picks of Slick Chick and they are all different. On this one note the anti-glare is much wider and looks like it is on top of the red cowling. Scallop on the port side s not scary, it the starboard side that has me wiggin' out.
  13. COWLING MASK This will indeed be a most daunting task for me. With copy of a line drawing from Yellow MMP's P-47 Thunderbolt, straight edge and French Curve I rendered the Scalloped Cowling art. Port side. Scanned then a horizontal flip for the starboard side. Execute a FPO for test fit. Looks good. Now on to some cutting.
  14. Thanks Peter - yes, you and I now have Alclad in our veins. Thanks Kev. The EZ part is done. Now for the red Scalloped Cowling. Let the angst begin.
  15. I am all aboard the Atta Boy bandwagon! Spectacular results. My first time using masks for national insignia did not yield the great results you achieved. Bravo! A great job and I am sure you learned much.
  16. ANTIGLARE After some masking and black base applied, Mr Color 304 Olive Drab thinned 3:1 painted for the antiglare. Masking tape removed from the tail shows some touch up needed on the rudder hinges. Will most likely do this before I add the black stripe on the rudder and stabilizers, TBD. Then the Scalloped red cowling, yikes! Will need to clean/touch up around the hinges. Fin Fillet dry fitted.
  17. Thanks Mark. PM inbound.
  18. Thanks Thomas...keep it about 15.
  19. After an overall coat of Alclad Aluminum I begin working on the panels, control surfaces, etc. I must have used about a mile of Tamiya Masking Tape. Cowling has light coverage as this will be shot with Insignia Red. Panel color selection is random. Control surfaces were specifically painted Semi Matte Aluminum. Other Alcald colors used: Airframe Aluminum, Dura Aluminum, Dark Aluminum, White Aluminum and Magnesium. Next step will be Anti Glare application. Apologizes for iPhone pics. The SLR is on leave. Albeit, I do like how the color of my shirt was picked up on the Alclad finish. The wastegates and supercharger panel were given a shot of Pale Burt Metal for exhaust base and heat weathering.
  20. PUTTY SAND REPEAT Hopefully this will solve the sink mark issue. Time for primer and paint.
  21. Stay tuned on my "Slick Chick" thread. I have one more set of panels to paint. I must have used about a mile of Tamiya Masking Tape on this. Will post pics later today.
  22. Love the engine "stub" move! You using Alclad for the NMF?
  23. Been lurking on this string for a good while Mal. Beautiful work to date. look forward to next build posts.
