  1. In that case, it looks like i'm going on the Saturday then......
  2. I'm hoping to go. Having never been before i am keen, but it all depends on if i can get the time off work. Am i right in thinking that bargains can be had..?
  3. Hi, i need to start thinking about painting the exhaust stubs on my P51. The instructions are advising a mix of metallic grey and flat red but i thought i would ask you guys if there is a better way first. Thanks, Nick
  4. Work of art that is - Absolutley brilliant!
  5. Wow........ Some BIG stashes out there.. As a newcomer to all this i'm just going to say that my stash consists of Tamiya P51 (currently being built, slowly...), a Tamiya Spit, a 1:72 Airfix P40 and my most recent ebay bargain which is a Revell 1:72 P47.. I have intentions of not letting the collection get too big but we all know about good intentions....
  6. Really clean build there, looks excellent. This is a kit i would like to build one day. Thanks, Nick
  7. Excellent, that looks awesome!! And its the first one i have seen completed. Can i ask, how was it to build? I was tempted to get one, but ended up with the Tamiya kit. But thats not to say i wouldnt add one to my collection...
  8. I'm loving this build. This one inspired me to start my own P51, keep up the good work Peter - you are an inspiration!. Nick
  9. Awesome work, it really does look well used. I do have to wonder how many more master pieces you are going to show off - so far every single one has been excellent! How long does it take you (on average) to complete one? Thanks, Nick
  10. Thats great, thanks for the very helpful advice chaps!
  11. Thanks guys. I have started my Mustang build and have now used a few photo etch parts. All has gone well so far - using the sticky tape was a good call. I have yet to have to bend any parts yet, i cant afford to get a Hold and Fold yet so i will have to improvise. Thanks again, Nick
  12. Thanks, could you give me the link to the site you got it from please? I have seen a few on ebay USA and Australia, but if i order from there i will get stung with import taxes. Thanks, Nick
  13. Wow!! Thats fantastic! Nick
  14. Thats awesome, it really is. Any chance you could perhaps give me a few tips on how you get such a briiliant finish using brushes? I have just bought an airbrush, but i'm finding it difficult to adjust to it from using brushes. Also, has Tamiya stopped making/supplying this kit? I have been browsing the net trying to source one but its proving a bit difficult.. Thanks, Nick
  15. That looks fantastic! I have just started to build this kit, again, as like you i built a fair few smaller cheaper kits first just to get a bit of practise in. Thanks, Nick
  16. Haha! Cheers J, i was actually thinking about getting some aftermarket decals.... I was going to build 'Blondie', but i could be tempted to sway from that.. Old Crow looks appealing. Anyway, i started on the Mustang kit the other night, took me two and a half hours to build the motor and supercharger. I took my time as i'm determined to build this as best as i can. I'm starting to see now why this kit gets so much praise - the detail and fit so far is just awesome... I'm used to building Airfix 1:72 'cheap' kits, this is just in a different league.. If im feeling brave enough (and i have the spare time) i will start a WIP thread. Time is short for me though, i have a hectic job and young kids. Thanks for all the invaluable help and guidance so far chaps! Nick
  17. Thanks for the heads up on the tyres, i will order a set. I figure its going to be a while before i need to worry about them though, so my bank balance should have recovered by then. Thanks, Nick Edit - Update.... I have opened the box, tools at the ready - I'm going in!
  18. Thanks guys, thats just the kind of advice i was after! I was finishing off my 1:72 BF109 the other day and managed to drop one of the exhaust pieces... I searched and searched to no avail. Still, it gives me an excuse to try to scratch build one i guess. Thanks, Nick ps. This forum is great - very very friendly, helpful and absolutely stunning modelling skills.
  19. Hi guys, i'm about to start one of the Tamiya 1:32 scale kits, either the Mustang or Spit (still havent decided which one first..) I have never used photo etch parts before, so i was wondering if you could throw any advice or helpful tips my way regarding using them. From what i can gather i cut them out with a very sharp blade and (judging by the size of them) then try really really hard not to lose them in the carpet..? Thanks, nick
  20. Thats great, thanks guys for the warm welcome and the brilliant advice. I have made my choice.... And i will be starting with the Mustang! Now, having just spent a small fortune on both kits, aswell as paint and some tools over the last few weeks, i was going to build both kits straight out of the box. All the resin upgrades look fantastic but i have to have a limit somewhere.... But having said that i saw the really great detailed cockpits with the Barracuda decal sets, so i ordered one today. And thats it, i CANT spend anymore money... At least not this month anyway. My other hobby is motorcycling, and this modelling lark is costing me almost as much as that does! Thanks again guys Nick
  21. Thanks guys. Peter, i have read your build thread, and it is very very inspiring. I'm itching to start building and i reckon within the next few days i will pull open a box and make a start. I'm experimenting with using washes and dry brushing on scrap bits and pieces as these are techniques i would like to incorporate into my builds. Whichever i build first i know i'm going to love it! Thanks for the warm welcome, Nick
  22. Hi, my first post and boy am i glad i found this place - its right up my street. I have recently returned to modelling as an adult, and i have to say its just as (if not more) fun as it was when i was a kid. Anyway, i have recently built a few 1:72 scale ww2 aircraft, and the plan was to build a few more... But then i became aware of the (to my eyes, staggering) Tamiya 1:32 Spitfire and Mustang... In a moment of madness i ordered 1 of each and here lies my question to the guys on here who have built both kits.... As a relative newcomer should is there one i should build before the other? Is one more fiddly or a requires a bit more skill? Whichever i start first i intend to really take my time and do the best i can, i have already spent hours and hours researching as much as i can about both aircraft. Let me just add that i'm blown away by the standard of modelling you guys are capable of - I am truly in awe! Thanks, Nick
