dutik
On Jerrys request I will show some of my recent dios under construction. Of course the finished pieces too This one is named: "May" The base is a A4 sized wooden picture frame. The gun is Dragons "8,8 on Behelfslafette" Smart kit. Got it on sale; and the simplified undercarriage eleminates the need to glue together all that parts the standard undercarriage had. Construction of the gun is straightforward. Good fit. Keyed parts. You get the option for styrene, PE or metal parts where appropriate like styrene or metal barrel. The only visible omission is the large wiring runnig along both sides of the gun cradle. The building is by Miniart. Rubble is brick rubble from railroad modelling, some painted styrene, model bricks (Juweela and Royal model). Dust provided by Mig pigments; "Vietnam earth" and "Brick dust". Real wood. The wallpaper is by Reality in Scale, the chair scratchbuild. LSP_K2
The Dragon "88" is awesome, much nicer than the old Tamiya kit, (so is the Pak 40 for that matter). I'll look forward to seeing more.
dutik
Tamiyas 8,8 is a blast from the past. Good at it's time, but not to compare with todays kits. I have also AFVs 8,8 Flak 18, but Dragons kit had less parts. Also have the intention to use the AFV kit for a railway flak wagon at the Eastern Front. Maybe. An earlier wip image without all that dust.: Now also blended the rubble more into the base with some more dusting, but have no image of the latest update. The gun itself is build, awaiting paint. Will do when back from holiday. I want to add an old women passing by with two waterbuckets in the hands. Plus the usual spend ammo baskets, empty cartridges and so on. The first peaceful days between the debris of a long war... Regards! - dutik
JRutman
Nice beginning on the dio buddy! May I suggest bringing more individual pieces of rubble out from the big pile? Maybe the pile ends too abrubtly? Just a thought, you may shoot me if you wish!. Looks good. I jst got back into armor models after about a 10 year break and I can't believe how far it's come along in the meantime. That second gen German equipment by Dagon is just awesome compared to the stuff I started with back in the 70s. J
dutik
I am just back from summer holidays. Fishing, hunting, stock trading, downrating the greenback - you know, all that things we like to do but lack the time for while working to earn our money I want to have it ready for the IPMS Germany meeting in September, so stay tuned. Jerry, the rubble is gently blended out at the corners of the pile. But I have got an reply by a figure painting judge at another forum. He pointed out that the bricks of the larger pieces of rubble are very large, while the single bricks inside the rubble and at the wall are of a much smaler size. He got me! Yes, I was lazy while painting on the mortar lines... We shall see how the 8,8 and grandma will be recieved. Regards! - dutik

I've never done a dio or know all that much about them so I hope my suggestions don't sound rude or come across arrogant...just brainstorming. Rubble pile suggestions All the elements in here ought to have come from the building itself...all the parts need to have the right size and shape (scale) to correspond to roof or wall elements? The brick pile probably shouldn't have the courses of bricks equal to each other? Dust and blast damage indicators seem missing...scorching, carbon...must have been a fire? Variation of colour in the brick pile...inside and outside bricks, weathering, plaster, glass, interior bits of the house, kitchenware, a bed frame, mattress? Evidence of water damage...no roof and it must have rained at some stage...staining, drips down walls? Maybe some of the timbers could be darker in colour...hardwood? Its neat. I went over it for 10mins or so with a cuppa looking at your piccies. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for posting and I hope you do well at your IPMS meet.
