Hi Guys;

I've been busy lately working on some 48th stuff ( Spitfire I mentioned earlier in Discussion, and the Trumpeter FW-200 Condor ) so I was gagging to get back to real scale modelling. I decided I would do the Salamander as the Aires cockpit and wells came in recently, and here is where I am so far. The Aires stuff is simply awesome and as you can see, I feel they are the leaders in the market at the moment. The fit is flawless and the detail superb. Combined with the Eduard colour etched and I am liking what I see so far...

1st pic is of the Aires resin instrument panel. Nothing terribly interesting, other than the beautifully rendered pedals...

Second pic is the cockpit sidewalls in RLM 66 before the addition of the Eduard colour etched. The two sets mated perfectly, aside from some minor alterations to the sizes of the Eduard parts, and the obvious scraping and cutting away of some of the Aires details that were to be replaced with colour etched.

The third pic is the sidewalls again, this time painted and with the Eduard colour etched parts added. I will get an overhead shot to show some more of the Eduard stuff, as it is really superb.

Excuse that the stuff is looking pretty bad at the moment, but it is glossed at the moment, ready for the wash, weathering and matting down.

This is the semi complete instrument panel, with the ED colour panel.

the RAF Light stone bar around the edge will look like wood when complete, using oils for the effect. Hopefully I will be successful and it will look pretty good.

Hi Dave;

I'd ;ove to take credit for the controls, but that goes to Eduard's superb job oon their rendering. All I had to do was cut it to shape and use some super glue...

Cheers mate,

Jay

This pic is the seat ready to get the oil paint treatment on the fabric surfaces. the rear of the headrest will also be woodstained.

Here is the tub, glossed and ready for treatment as well. Early test fits showed there will be a tight fit for the intrument panel housing and pedals, but hopefully it will work out in the end...

I was amazed by this part of the Aires set when I looked at it as it was simply incredible. The detail and plumbing are spot on. I cant wait to weather it.

;) :o You have more to do? I'd be stoked with it just like that. Those rudder pedals are awesome :D

Look forward to seeing more. Oh..I saw your Schwimwagon thingy...the VW thats meant to float ( as opposed to my old 1966 Beetle which did even though I didn't mean it to). I thought thats looked great too mate.

Love looking at your work. Great fun and even people who refer to my model interest as ( dumb crap modelling) have themselves looked at your worked and gone "wow!" . I mean if you can turn a hard crowd mate it MUST be good.

Cheers Matt

Hi Guys;

Very very kind words, thanks alot for that! Matt, I'm pretty proud to have impressed some non modellers, although I have to give most of the credit to the after-market guys.

I just had an e-mail from Chris pointing out that I am building an He 162 not a 163. I was wondering why I was having such a hard time getting the cockpit to fit!! :D I'm not sure why but it is an error I always make for some strange reason. Sorry if there have been any dissapointed guys looking for a 163. I will be converting one into a Shusui that Erwin sent me.

Dave, sorry about the wife strife ;) Wait till she goes away then I can send everything you want!!

Cheers guys,

Jay
