Edit: I did some research, and it appears the primary visual differences were as follows: I-15 = gull upper wings, fixed gear (both below based on this plane) I-15bis = continuous upper wing, fixed gear I-153 = gull upper wing, retracting gear So it looks like the I-153 would be pretty far from the I-15bis version that caught my eye.
