docdodj01
As the title suggests, how wide was it? Was there a specification on how to measure where exactly place them, similar to orders on invasion stripes size, width, distance from national markings? Thanks in advance! :-)
MikeC
It you mean the longitudinal recognition markings, this is what I've gleaned from my various Mighty Eighth books, particularly Warpaint & Heraldry. The fin/rudder stripe was 12 inches (30.48 cm) wide, with the centreline 12 inches below the top of the fin. The tailplane stripes were 15 inches (38.1 cm) wide, with the centreline 33 inches (83.8 cm) inches in from the tip. The wing stripes were also 15 inches, the inner edge to pass through where the root fillet starts (I think this refers to the P-51B/C, but it could mean the D).
