blackbetty
a little putty and some sanding is in order here in the pic you can see how these fit into the notches in the zactoparts and those cut into the lower vertical stab. maybe these are stops or hide some internal structure, i dont know the macro is cruel Edited January 3, 2011 by blackbetty
blackbetty
.... i am not finished with the fin. i decided to cut it out and sand it flat before it also gets a vinyl-cut stiffener. the kit ones are the wrong shape and i am not happy with my sanding job. it also gives me the chance to change the hinges, they look differnet in reality having the primer on the fins dry i turned to the dreaded wheelwells again just a quick reminder - this is how far i got before i turned to scribing:
blackbetty
looking at the parts i made to simulate the top of the engine tunnels didnt make me happy either these are not going to do. my eyes fell on the cut out kit trunks (replaced by the zacto parts) - these have the perfect shape and can be cut to fit Edited January 4, 2011 by blackbetty

blackbetty
fortunately the 4+ book (get it if you ever try to build this one) contains some cross sections of the wheelwells so i made some temporary spars to fix the trunks into position. the front one is visible here. it cant stay in place because the forward wall of the well is further forward
blackbetty
the second spar (G) sorta flows around in space, so i had to construct a (temporary) roof to hold it in the correct place. the spar cant stay that way too, because it has a cutout for the gearleg
blackbetty
view from the front, down the intake i thank god everytime i look at the intake for the FOD covers that hide the duct. having to do some trunking in there would be some fun Edited January 4, 2011 by blackbetty
