Adrian A. Posted December 30, 2006 Posted December 30, 2006 Count me in guy's. I'll be doing a 1993 repop of the 1969 Revell P51B Mustang. I'll finishing it in a NMF Tuskegee Red Tail scheme of Lee Archers 'Ina the Macon Belle'. I've been wanting to do that bird for quite a while, guess this is as good a time as any.
Adrian A. Posted December 30, 2006 Author Posted December 30, 2006 I'll be using the Warbird Decals "Red Tail" P-51C Mustangs Pt. 1.
Adrian A. Posted December 30, 2006 Author Posted December 30, 2006 I've already done a little work on th plane, just had to pull it from the pile & dust it off. Here's a pic of the completed firewall.
Adrian A. Posted December 30, 2006 Author Posted December 30, 2006 I've also did a little work on the fuselige, painting & drill work. I've opened up the cheek vents & backed them with brass screen - I'll add some phot0-etched vents over the gaping hole. I've also drilled out the fastener holes in the framework but you can't see it in the photo's -partly camera, partly camera skills. Adrian A.
Adrian A. Posted December 30, 2006 Author Posted December 30, 2006 I had intended to use the Engine & Things Merlin in this bird but it's againts the rules so I'll just go with the kit engine - I've already finished it except for a little wiring. Adrian A.
Jeff Herne Posted December 30, 2006 Posted December 30, 2006 Looks good Adrian - I'm starting my P-51B tomorrow, gonna do mine up as Leakin' Lizz, YF*E 358th FS, 4th FG. Couldn't nail down any other markings so I'll run with these! Jeff
Adrian A. Posted December 30, 2006 Author Posted December 30, 2006 Last pic of the night is of my laminated wood floor - which I'm not going to use - it goes with the Eduard cockpit I'm working on (I'll use it & the E & T Merling on my 'Ding Hao' build) Hope you guy's like the work so far - I'll get back to building tomorrow. Adrian A.
Adrian A. Posted December 30, 2006 Author Posted December 30, 2006 Thanks Jeff. It'll be nice having another P51B Mustang build to look at. I've got a set of Beeson's 'QP*M' if you'd like them - just let me know if you want them & I'll send them to you. Adrian A.
Adrian A. Posted December 31, 2006 Author Posted December 31, 2006 Hi Guy's, I did a little work on 'Ina' tonight. Pic # 1 shows the installed firewall. I'm hopeing to install the engine in the next few days to run the wiring/plumbing - just to get them out of the way. Adrian A.
Adrian A. Posted December 31, 2006 Author Posted December 31, 2006 Pic # 2 is the start of the kits cockpit parts - kinda rough but I'll touch them up a bit after I get the sidewalls in the fuse, a little more paint, placards & try my hand at a wash. Adrian A.
Adrian A. Posted December 31, 2006 Author Posted December 31, 2006 Pic # 3 is of the Left wing cutout for the gunbay. I'm a little concerned with this puppy - scratch building really ain't my strong suit. But I'll give it a try - I can always use a wing out of one of my other kits if I pooch it. One question on this - what is the best way to thin the wing around the gunbay opening? I've got a dremel but....the results might not be too pretty!! Thanks for looking! Adrian A.
Adrian A. Posted December 31, 2006 Author Posted December 31, 2006 Pic # 4 shows the wing with my first try at the gunbay. It's a little rough, but I'll see what it looks like after I mount the Verlinden MG's & Aber ammo belts. Adrian A.
Adrian A. Posted December 31, 2006 Author Posted December 31, 2006 Pic # 5 is of the gunbay itself. It looks a little awkward, I'll probably try another go at it. I think I may have gotten the dividers placement wrong. Adrian A.
Adrian A. Posted December 31, 2006 Author Posted December 31, 2006 Pic # 6 is of my 'new' homemade photobooth. It's not real pretty but I'm already getting a few better pics with it. Thanks for looking! Adrian A.
