  1. I thought I'd pull this out of the stash for the GB. I was thinking about an Argentine aircraft, but on further investigation they didn't carry the slatted F40 wing. I might do a Columbian aircraft or failing to find those decals, just standard Luftwaffe. Armament will consist of two sidewinders and it looks like two 1000lbers.
  2. Hi guys, It's 6:00 Am on Christmas morning and I can't sleep, So i thought I'd get online and show you what I've been up to so far over my Christmas / New Years holidays. I decided to start my 2018 big and have begun work on Kinetics 1/32 F/A-18 A/B Hornet. This is a re-issue of the Academy kit. Besides the bang seats, decals and anything I scratch up, I think this kit will be mostly OOB. Like with most of my builds, I started by researching what modifications I would need to make to the kit parts, and seeing which parts might need to be replaced. I'd remembered seeing this photo in a post on AMI a few years back so was happy to find it again in my searching. The tails look pretty good, and these mods seem simple enough. As I understand it, the knife blade re-enforcement plates are only on the left hand side of each tail piece, correct? I will be modelling A21-103 from 3 Squadron. There are no decals available for this plane yet in 1/32, though they are the same as for the single seater A21-57, which are included in the Kinetic 1/48 F/A-18 A/B/C/D kit. As noted by Andrew Perren and others, the decals are too dark, but as I will be only using them to scan, enlarge and make stencils from using my portrait cutter, this will not be a problem. I've started out with cutting out, painting and assembling the cockpit and nose landing gear bay. Work has been progressing well so far, but there is a lot more work to go before I'll be happy enough to seal up the tub. I have to change the colours on the rear IP screens as soon as the decals have settled properly. Thats it for now, and as I'm cooking the Christmas lunch today, I won't be getting anymore done until tomorrow. The build is going well so far, with my only complaint about the kit being the instructions being poorly printed. Numbers are unclear and locations are iffy, So Im looking for detailed picture of the real deal when ever I can. Advice and tips are always appreciated. Merry Christmas everyone.
  3. For info: What look like some nice resin wheels for the Kinetic kit or VFS one if you have that. Three tyre types to choose from. DEF Model...click on the corresponding thumbnail Lucky Model has them in stock for about $15USD HTH. Cheers Matty
  4. Here is my current project, the F-86F-30 from Italeri. I live about 45 minutes away from where the aircraft on the box art is kept. I have been watching it fly and sit in the Valiant Air Command Museum for quite a few years. After the annual airshow this spring, I decided I needed to build a version of it. This won’t be a completely accurate version of this F-86, but it will be representative of it. I haven’t decided if I am going to make the markings as the plane is now, or when it actually flew with the Skyblazers. I picked the kit up a couple of months ago and have slowly been working on it. The only aftermarket that I am adding is a set of Harold’s resin wheels and HGW seatbelts. I know the kit has some inaccuracies, but I am going to live with them and hopefully get a kit built! I didn’t get any pictures until just recently, so some of my work is undocumented. I started by closing in the back of the gun ports and re-drilling them, trying to make them a little more accurate. I am not going to have the gun bays open and the gun ports will have the plugs in them. Next I worked on getting rid of the seam on the intake and exhaust. I also thinned down the back of the exhaust to make it look more scale. I don’t want to use the intake and exhaust covers unless it really doesn’t look right after I get them painted. For the cockpit, I used some sheet styrene and styrene rod to add some details. I didn’t go crazy, just a few that I noticed in pictures. I did the same thing with the seat, just added a few details with sheet and rod. to be continued. . .
  5. I thought I needed something relatively easy, cheap, quick and dirty, so I canned all other options and ideas and decided to go with my latest acquirement I hauled away from the ESM, namely Kinetics Hawk 100: I haven't decided on any markings, yet, but it will be one from this sheet: (BTW, did you get my mail, Kev?) Haven't decided on a scheme, yet, but I'm leaning towards a bird in desert camo. Will be mostly out of box, with a few small home made enhancements, but nothing too fancy. I'll post some pictures, soon
