Well it's been a while since I've worked on a plane kit, much less a GB. I burned out on planes after some spectacular recent fails and switched to other subjects. Mostly armour and cars but it was time for a plane again. So I picked my favourite prop- the Corsair. A few years ago Fundekals released a set called Whistling Death. One of the planes is a USMC F4U-1A called Blue Baron that has an unusual camo scheme possibly due to weathering and touch-ups. In either case, that's my subject. I'll be using the Tamiya kit with some AM besides the decals but nothing to crazy as that's what did me in last time.

Hey guys & gals, So I've been lurking here for longer than I'd like to admit, it took me years to even create a profile, much less comment and post. Mine is a common story, mid-40's guy who modeled into his teens and rediscovered the hobby once life becomes a little more settled. I've always had a passion for history and my dream as a kid was to be a fighter pilot (dashed by my poor eyesight). Once I realized that wasn't going to work out I ended up getting my kicks elsewhere, working professionally in snowboarding and skateboarding for almost 20 years. But that passion for history, most notably the air war in WWII, regardless of theater, was merely laying dormant. Cue to about a year ago, when life finally got out of the way enough that I managed to start pulling together some basic modeling tools so I could get myself back into the hobby. It's been slow going, as life still gets in the way more often than not, but I now have all the basic stuff I need, and then some. I even have a modest stash of about 4 kits, 2 of which are LSP's (Hasegawa P-47D and Revell P-51D-5). Sadly, I haven't gotten around to them yet, as I wanted to re-hone my skills on some cheaper, smaller kits before committing fully to "manscale". So far I've built three kits, popped my cherry with a Tamiya Mk. Vb Spit in 1/48, followed by an ancient Hasegawa P-38 in 1/72 that I found in my parents' attic after 30+ years and now this 1/48 Tamiya F4U-1A, which I built for my dad seeing as it's his favorite plane. Just wrapped this thing a couple of days ago, this whole project entailed a number of firsts for me: first time scratch-building, first time using the hairspray technique, first time black basing, first time wiring up a radial, and so it's only fitting this is my first time ever posting one of my models anywhere. Needless to say, considering the talent at hand on this site, I hope my work is up to par. So without further ado here's Big Hog, Tommy Blackburn's machine during his time as CO of Fighting-17, based on Ondonga, November 1943. Hope you guys like it, can't wait to get my grubby mitts on an LSP in the near future! More pics in the next post...

Ok, so I just finished my entry in the last GB and I'm back with this build. The first thing to do was to tidy up the workbench. Shaka, if you're reading this avert your eyes! Yup, a clean bench. So much space to clutter up, er, work in. Now onto my starting point: I'll be using the Montex masks for the larger markings and the Xtradecals for the smaller ones. I'm planning to build 307 in the 3 tone front, GSB rear combo. Carl

Hi guys, want to share with you my last finished model - Revell's F4U-1A Corsair The model is very old, about 1970's, inaccurate and poor detailed. However I had to make this model, because my client didn't want to buy a Tamiya's (that kit was too expensive for him) better one and provided me with that kit. Anyway, the model is completed and the client is happy - this is the most important thing for me )) The build was almost OOB with minor improvements which you may notice on photos. Hope you enjoy it.

Hi, guys. I've posted a few times here, but never shared any LSP works. Truth is, I've been kinda disappointed in my efforts with them and haven't had anything I really felt like sharing. In just the last year, I've made the jump into 1/32 A/C from the realm of strictly 1/35 armor. I feel like a lot of the processes used to paint and weather armor just don't seem to work all that well with LSPs. Anyway, I went for a fairly clean attempt at the Corsair on this. I ran into some problems with the decals silvering really badly due to a poor clear gloss that I laid down. So, after sanding them off to remove them, then affixing all the rest, I was kind of ready to complete this one and get it off the bench. So, not a whole lot of weathering happened beyond some basic silver pencil chipping, exhaust and gun smoke staining, and a wash. That's also why it's kind of a conglomeration of two different decal schemes. All that said, it's no match for some of the stuff I see posted here, but any C&C is welcome. be gentle!

How is it going guys, well this is my newest addition to the display cabinet. Its the new Tamiya 1/32 f4u-1a. This was very enjoyable kit to build, I added a few extra items such as the barracuda interior decals, barracuda tires, rb productions oil coolers, and the hgw seatbelts. Paints used were all by mr color, weathering was by ak interactive panel liners, very nice by the way, and ez line for the aerial wire. And decals are by fundakals, these decals are amazing to work with, and they give u a lot of info such as the placement of the aerial wire. I hope you guys like my f4u, and questions or comments are welcome jeff

My F4U-1A kit just arrived, and I'm looking at potential builds. Since my last Corsair was a Leatherneck one from the Cactus Air Force (therefore wings extended), I'd love to do a carrier-based build this time with folded wings. Any suggestions on planes, especially USMC planes aboard ship? I know I could do a factory-delivery aboard a "jeep" carrier, but would prefer a fighting airframe with some weathering potential. TIA as always, you guys are the best.
