  1. Hello chaps, on this fascinating topic I had recently heard about the 'monochrome' work done by Fanch Lubin while listening to a podcast called 'The Sprue Cutters Union'. Great podcast by the way. So on Fanch's 1/32 masterpieces, I found a high resolution article in Meng Air Modeller (issue 91) that I purchased individually from the official website. https://www.afvmodeller.com/product/meng-air-modeller-issue-91-out-28th-july/ Hope that helps anyone wanting to see it in high-res glory.!
  2. Props indeed to KHM, how great it is to see a manufacturer actually listening and responding so rapidly to feedback. I grew up in the days of Revell and Monogram kits, where the mould was set in steel (better than stone) and there was no way in the world of communicating with the designers, those were 'take what you're given' days. We are a spoilt lot nowadays and I LOVE IT
  3. Good to see you're doing one of these too Markus! This might be the motivation I need to get my half finished one back on the bench! Will follow along all the way mate
  4. I'll watch with interest..how many times I've been in my hobby shop and had to walk past these big beauties, made even more difficult when the price keeps coming down (sigh). But I've got their 1/32 F-16CJ to fry, no new ones till she's done! I posted meagre progress on lsp as 'yep another Tamiya F-16'..give me a nudge along please!
  5. I'm in, love the T-28 as there were a bunch of them hangared and flown most weekends in Toowoomba Australia
  6. Thanks Eric! I'm a big fan of trigger-type airbrushes, I run a Tamiya HG trigger type 0.3mm and their 0.5mm, another rather different gun I have is the Mr Hobby Procon Boy trigger type that has a flat fan type spray pattern - great for motorcycle bodies or primer. Your Hornet is looking 'the business'..inspired!
  7. Eric wow you certainly do know your clear coating biz! Looks fantastic! Could I bother you for your setup if you get the chance? Ie airbrush nozzle size, X-22 thin ratio etc
  8. G'day Eric mate I've been following along and am very very inspired - living in Brisbane I see plenty of the Super Hornets from Amberley, and have always wanted to build a. a 2OCU classic Hornet and a Super Hornet. In regards to your X-22 Clear coating, I'm also a big fan of it because hey its the same glossy gloop that's in the other 'X-' Tamiya paints. One huuuuge piece of great advice I read was written by Matt from Doog's Models, it's as follows quotes from his website: "Doog's clear-coating: I've tried a lot of different glosses. You name it, I've probably put it through my airbrush. Gunze, yep. Testors, yep. Humbrol, unfortunately. Alclad, yep. Vallejo, AK, Ammo, even some weird s#%@ called Gaia. My favorite is Tamiya X-22 Clear, thinned with Gunze Mr. Leveling Thinner. But here's the kicker…once it's down, it's important to go back over it with a very light, misted coat of straight leveling thinner. For some chemical reason that's probably awesome, this helps it go very, very smooth". I've tried this guys and it is genius - I used to have issues when doing a gloss where due to the warm area I live (and adding paint retarded even) any spray that lands on the surface that's not part of the 'wet edge' resulted in dusting..Doog's clear idea re-glosses and solves this issue It doesn't seem to matter even if you hit the surface a few times just to really gloss it up...love it!
  9. So this is probably the slowest build thread, but I have still got loads of enthusiasm! Cockpit all done, and most of the exterior sorted, so less and less excuses!
  10. My new favourite way of filling seams, the less liquid filler the better I think!
  11. Those tiny square panels at the back cover the assembly screws so must be installed nice and flush
  12. Hey Youngtiger great you're still interested.. for me this is a definite no rush project, have completed some other planes while this '16 is still on the go, makes a nice change to go onto a different project But for now I've got the L.E. slats installed, then painted the airframe with matt black to check on all the joins & seams..

  14. Its just as well this isn't my full time job - I'd be fired! Well I've been dabbling in Alps printing, bought myself a factory new MD-5000 (don't ask how..)! Beautiful results, here's a test print on some decal paper - gotta love that it can print white!
  15. Hi Jeff..mate it looks like you've totally taken the lead! Yours looks immaculate, super nice paintwork! I have been away for a couple of weeks so nothing to show at the moment, but hopefully will get a chance in the next few days
  16. Thanks Jeff and Whitey! Jeff sounds like you're on a roll..post up some pics!
