  1. Finally getting to this build. The 3 concerns I had about converting the Revell kit from a folding wing F4F-4 to Butch O'Hare's fixed wing F4F-3 was the engine, cowling and wing rivet pattern. I know F4F-3's had engine variations of some with magnetos on the crank case and some not. Some had two large cowling flaps some had 8 small ones. Some had an airscoope at the 12 o'clock position some did not. I found out for O'Hare's 'White 15', it had no scoop on top of the cowl (so I'll need to fill and sand the kit's cowl) and the enging did have crankcase magnetos (which the kit does, too). A picture of O'Hare flying a -3 marked 'F-13' and dated April, 1942 had no cowl scoop and the 8 cowl flaps -close enough for me and my ' White 15'. F4F-3s The -3 had 4 guns as opposed to the -4's 6. The original positions of the -3's four guns are virtually the same postion as in the -4, the access pannels are completely different, as is the rivet pattern in general between the two marks. I'm still not sure how I'm going to deal with that. I'm starting by dressing the engine up a bit and hope to have some images by the evenging of the 18th (a day off for me.)
  2. Beautiful work, Vaughn. I have the same Doyusha kit and I'm taking notes.
  3. This past Sunday was ModelFest 2009, an event hosted by the local IPMS chapter, Sikorsky IPMS. Unfortunately the show was not as well attended this year as in previous years but there was still some outstanding work. Below are links to of 1/32 scale aircraft model images I had taken at the event. They include a Tamiya F4, a Trumpeter A-7 and Mig-21, a Hasegawa P-47D, P-40E, P-26 and FW-190A and a Revell FW-190D. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta...est2009/462.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta...est2009/459.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta...est2009/482.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta...est2009/483.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta...est2009/484.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta...est2009/485.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta...est2009/487.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta...est2009/510.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta...est2009/511.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta...est2009/539.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta...est2009/540.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta...est2009/541.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta...est2009/542.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta...est2009/543.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta...est2009/544.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta...est2009/555.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta...est2009/556.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta...est2009/579.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta...est2009/580.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta...est2009/581.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta...est2009/582.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta...est2009/584.jpg For all the images I took at the show: http://s355.photobucket.com/albums/r450/ta.../ModelFest2009/
  4. Nice work on the machine and figure.
  5. Now that's old school. Hollowing out the kit parts as opposed to buying replacement parts. One thing that's nice about 1/32 scale and above....larger parts make it easier to a builder modify himself (herself). Are you going to have a pilot seated at all? My Revell Wildcat has a similar pilot figure but I would like to replace him with another seated pilot. I've been looking his two parts over to see if I could pull off separating an arm from the mold and fill in with putty so I can get him to grip the stick.
  6. I've been wanting to convert my old Revell kit to represent an F4F-3 variant since I got Trumpeter's F4F-4 kit. I'll make it a fixed wing -3 with 4 machine guns in the colors of Butch O'Hare's mount in 1942. I'll do it up as a wheels-up in-flight desk top model.
  7. OMG, another gorgeous George build!. Between yours, Kevin LSP's and Wingman777's it's almost too much for me to take. I had not been by this site for a very long time and the first time I do in a long time and BANG! - 3 build of the same kit I have. Beautiful work. I need to find the Master Model's cannon barrels.
  8. Wow, two great build of the 1/32 N1k2 in one day on the same forum! Looks fantastic. Very nice finish. Great idea with the cockpit. Between your build and LSP-Kevin's, I'm busting with motivation to do mine.
  9. Gorgeous work. I have the same kit and now I have a wonderful source for building it.
