Azgaron
Thanks Phil! Don't know if it's gonna be a silk purse just yet, I'm happy if it ends up a leather bag. Cheers, Håkan
spacewolf
Looks good Håkan I remember that kit from way back...also remember stealing the exhausts for my 1/24th X-Wing ! Love what you are doing with the pilot. Cheers Vaughn
Azgaron
Thanks Vaughn! Slowly but surely, yeah, feels a bit too slow atm. I've been doing some bits here and there. Not much to show yet though. I started modifying the seats a bit. Hopefully it'll look a bit better when done. Here's one pic with the pilots seated. I will add some more bits to the rear of the seat and straps from seat to pilot. Cheers, Håkan BradG
Azgaron
Getting the hang of how things really look, just by looking at pics isn't always easy. So I opened up my Hasegawa kit in 1/48 just to check what things looked like. Accidently I started that one too! Quite some differences to say the least! I'll try and accomplish two things if I can. I'll do some added detailing to the panels, and check if it's possible to lower the front section as it is on the Gawa. I added strips to the wall behind the back seat, and will make a wall behind the front seat as well. The instrument panels in the kit are flat, and to remedy that, I've started out on a new rear panel. Still some more work to do, and I guess there's supposed to be a control stick attached on the rear panel as well, as on the Gawa kit, although not the same version. spacewolf
Accidently I started that one too! Those kits are 'tricksy'....they suck you in and urge you to build them Good idea though to check against the other kit. If I remember the Revel kit was rather lacking in detail. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this. Cheers Vaughn
Azgaron
Thanks Vaughn! Yeah, all of a sudden I had assambled the seats, and now I'm working with the pilots! Yes, there's great difference in detail. Revell have none at all in the cockpit except for the rather nice decals. Not sure how much I can accomplish, but some knobs and panels might lessen the flatness some. As you said, one can scratch a lot as long as one knows/figures how to do it. spacewolf
As you said, one can scratch a lot as long as one knows/figures how to do it. Aye, thats the rub... I spend more time pondering on how than on actually making the part... but it keeps the brain active... rather do this than crossword puzzles ! Azgaron
I agree Vaughn! I've been doing some more detailing on the rear ip, and on the rear of the seat. What's missing, is mainly instruments and control stick console. I've checked distance between cockpit tub and front wheel well, and there isn't much space to work with. I guess I'll just leave it as it is and just add details to the side panels and fuselage walls. Cheers, Håkan BradG
spacewolf
Hey Håkan... very nice work... isn't reverse engineering fun ? As if making the parts wasn't enough, having to figure out how they fit in the space is just as bad sometimes ! Watching and cheering you on my friend ! Azgaron
Thanks Vaughn! Yes, it sure is fun! Always nice with a challenge! I'm going on vacation, starting tomorrow, so I might get some more done, or not, depending on the weather. Cheers, Håkan
big matt
That ip and seat back look great Hakan. It is great to throw resin at a project but good old fashioned scratch building is too much fun!
Azgaron
Thanks Matt! Yeah resin would have been nice, but as you say old fashioned scratch building is fun, and atm it's almost the only thing I can afford! Hope that'll change soon though if I get the work as webmaster/designer. I'm currently working there as a kind of practice, but hoping to get it for real. mgbooyv8
Hi Håkan, Nice scratchbuilding in this "classic" cockpit! Let's hope you'll get your job for real. Cheers, Peter
Azgaron
Thanks Peter! Yeah, I hope so too! I've just resized some instruments I found and printed them out. Gonna cut and glue them in place as soon as I got some paint on the panel. The weather here is damn hot and humid, so I'm melting away. Where's the beer??? Windows open everywhere so I hope I'll get something done. Cheers, Håkan
Azgaron
The scratching (of my head) continues! I decided to cut the front and rear cockpit tubs apart. I cut the panels from the front tub part and added bits of plastic to create some elevation of the panels, as on the Gawa kit. A bit hard to see, as I'm having difficulties getting good pics on the white parts. I've cut and engraved panel lines on the new left panel. The rear panel is almost ready and I've started on the front panel and the new control stick. Adding details to the panels will take some time. I've been promised pics from a friend who's a Phantom Phreak! Cheers, Håkan BradG
