P 47 wheels

Hi all

I am in need of help with this.

What is the height and width of the P47 D Thunderbolt wheels in 1/32 scale. As the Revell wheels don't look like the real thang, I need to make some( I like making this kinda stuff). New Zealand dos not have a real P47. NZ had one a number of years ago obtained from PNG and was the early type. I remember seeing it at MOTAT in Auckland 1990 and then was swapped for a replica Sopwith Pup to a group in Australia who are rebuilding to flying condition? Had I had the Revell kit I most likely would have taken measurements! It's a really big a/c climbing over the a/c was a lot of fun. The colours Olive drab medium grey white tail. I have no idea of the history. Others here may have a better idea?

Thanks

Denie

Denie,

This should help u,in getting the dia. for the 47 wheels and tires. One must rmember that 3/8th of an inch =one scale foot for 32nd.Found this out also.I was messing along time ago, wondering what 48th scale tires would work on 32nd and i found that 48th scale bombers, fill the bill.25,17,and B-26 Marauder wheels and tires work just right and they have tread on them.Also.Jerry Rutman amkes two types of tires and wheels for the 47.Diamond and smooth. But the rest is up to u on which ine u want to use.ANd the cheaper way is another factor.I know wthat there are guys in and around u that should have some kit wheels and tires laying around and the last resort, would be true detail stuff, from squadron.Larry

Denie,

Thunderbolt wheels and tires were essentially the same size as those on Corsairs and Hellcats, though the hub patterns were different. One way around the latter problem is to model a particular P-47 that used flat "hubcaps," which can be cut from thin sheet plastic and added to a spare set of 1/32 Corsair or Hellcat wheels. However, as Maverick mentioned, another approach is to purchase a set of Jerry Rutman's excellent resin P-47 wheels and tires, which come in six-spoked, eight-spoked and "hubcapped" form. You can obtain these directly from Jerry, who lists them near the bottom of the web page at http://www.jrutman.freeola.com/page3.htm

Hi Larry and Charles

Many thanks for your replies re: P47 wheels, Jerry does do fantastic stuff problem being that by the time I get one set I'll want this set and that set and and....

Larry, good thinking young man, why not use 48 bomber wheels (now why did'nt I think of that!).

Charles, handy to know Hellcat ,Corsair same size as 47 wheels.
