Hi Guy's,

I'm finally back to modeling after QUITE a bit of house renovations, etc, etc....

This Wildcat has been sitting waiting patiently for me to get back to it. It survived a paint shelf collapsing on it & suffered only minimum damage. It's one tuff little ship! :D :D

If I knew how to access my old thread I would have just continued it but...my computer skills are somewhat lacking.

Anyway, for those of you wanting to see how a Wildcat should REALLY be built - please see Rodney Williams great series on this Plane in the What's New section. This ain't it!! B) :)

But, I do this for fun, so here goes..

the first pic is of the engine, OOB except for a little wiring-

I've somehow lost the pics I had of the cockpit build & my digi camera is having trouble taking one clear photo of it in the plane so... I guess I'll just have to skip the cockpit shots. It was OOB with the exception of seatbelts.

This second pic is of the plane in my homemade spraybooth about to be 'Primed" in Aluminum.

I decided to try the aluminum as a base to try some paintchipping/weathering.

This model has provided me with a number of 'firsts' - my first use of PE, first use of an airbrush (which was a disaster of course :) ), first try at washes, first try at chipping, etc.

This shot is of the engine after an oil wash & the painted cowl with a wash/weathering on the lower panel lines.

This next shot is of the sprayed a/c after a triple sanding job with 600, 1200 & 2000 grit sandpaper on the aluminum primer.

There are a few areas that still need to be 'tweeked' in this shot & I've already taken care of some of them.

I still have quite a bit of work left on it tho.

This next shot is of my attempt at 'chipping'. Is it overdone??

This aircraft will be finished in the markings of Capt. Marion Carl's white 2 of VMF 223 on Guadalcanal 1942.

I'll be using the Techmod decals.

This is the last shot for now. The canopy, windscreen, landing gear, cowl & engine are just test fitted. no gluing done yet.

I'm very dissatisfied with the condition of the folding wings but after the paintshelf accident I guess it could have been worse. I've decided to fold them after I'm finished anyway.

Hope you guy's like the pics.

Any & all comments welcomed!!

Yes, I've done some chipping already. I've chipped around the gunbay's, the cockpit, the leading edges & the tailpales.

I'll also chip the edge of the cowling and do a little wash in the panel lines to try my hand at some more weathering.

I was a little conservative around the cockpit with the chipping. i may wind up doing a little more.

Hi Guy's,

In addition to the first that I mentioned earlier in the post, i forgot to mention my first use of canopy masks - I used the Eduard Express Mask. I have to say - I don't know if it was me being unfamiliar with them or it was the masks. But, I'll just say I wasn't very impressed. I thnk I'll stick with masking it off with tape.

Another first for me is the use of Future. Kinda over did it just a teency bit  . But it was easy to correct.

Only a couple pics tonight. The first is the belly, futured & the weathering complete, Another first!

Is it over or under done?

Sorry about the last pic being a bit blurry, I've been fighting with my digital camera all night without much success.

The last pic for tonight is of the cockpit, I tried for an overhead shot but it just didn't work out. I'll play with the lighting & positioning to see if I can get a good cockpit shot.

Any & all comments welcomed!

Thanks,

Adrian A.
