Dave Williams
Anyone know when Polish MiG-23 MFs started being painted in the overall gray scheme as opposed to the tactical camo scheme? Thinking about the Cold War jets GB, but not sure if they were gray before the WarPac dissolved. TIA.
R Palimaka
I would have to check my references, but I believe the single-seaters were delivered and served initially in overall grey in the 1980s. The tactical camo schemes didn't appear until later in the 1980s after the aircraft went through overhauls in E. Germany, Bulgaria and Ukraine. To confuse things, after the fall of the Wall, aircraft undergoing overhaul in Poland were repainted in over-all grey, or even silver lacquer. But, short answer, I'm pretty sure the Mig-23 MF single seaters were delivered in light grey, with dark grey radomes and di-electric panels. So if you're wanting to do an overall grey Polish Mig 23 for the Cold War GB, you'd be fine. Richard Edited March 2, 2020 by R Palimaka
