  1. Spectacular build. I will be using this as to help guide me through my Mk. VIII. S
  2. Fantastic. This kit looks super-challenging (rigging ...), and your efforts have really paid off. Something to aspire to!
  3. Wow. I think I WOULD believe the work that went into that ...
  4. Thanks for the input, guys. I just ordered a bunch of lead wire from BNA in 0.2mm, 0.3mm, 0.4mm, 0.6mm and 0.8mm gauges. A bit pricey, but it'll save me a lot of bother stripping cables out of old refrigerators and stuff like that. S
  5. That's great, Kev - just the kind of info I was after. What gauges would you recommend? Regards, Scott
  6. Thanks for the tip on piano wire. I saw a thread in which somebody did use piano wire, and I thought it was the thing to do. I've been amazed at how hard it is to find a few simple short lengths of wire here in Melbourne. I've been to supermarkets, department stores, a Bunnings hardware store and Daiso. I did find some wire at Bunnings, but it's pretty much all the same gauge and looks a bit thin.
  7. Hi guys, My Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire Mk VIII will arrive soon in the post. I intend to dress the engine up with cables, pipes, etc, and have seen some great examples on the 'net of people using piano wire, etc, to do this. The problem is, wire is both expensive and surprisingly hard to find where I live and I will probably have to order it online. This means I'll have a long wait, and I'd prefer to order it immediately. For those people who've dressed up a Spitty engine before, can you please advise me on what stuff I'll need to make the engine look sweet? Specifically, I'm looking for advice on the gauges of piano wire, etc, that I'm likely to need. I'm also going to dress up the cockpit, so any advice on materials for that would also be appreciated (I've already ordered after-market Barracudacast upgrades). Thanks in advance for your time. S
  8. That's great guys - thanks heaps for the fast and informative feedback. Sounds like I'm all set to go, with a couple of people suggesting the cannon as a possibility. The starter cart looks cool too. I might build something like that first just to get my eye in with airbrushing etc. Thanks again. S
  9. Hello, I've just bought the Spitty mentioned in the topic title. I built my last model 30 years (!) ago, and can't wait to get started on it. Given the amount of time since my last build, I consider myself a virtual noob. I do have a question about aftermarket accessories - aimed only at those people who have used them, please - specifically the following: 1) Quickboost QB32143 fishtail exhausts --- Is this really any better than the exhausts in the kit? Why? 2) Master AM 32016 cannon --- Ditto. 3) Eduard Spitfire Mk VIII cockpit interior --- This is very expensive. Does it offer much, apart from making dials on the cockpit control panel more visible? Note that I've already spent a fortune on the following aftermarket items: BarracudaCast seat, cockpit door with crowbar, cockpit upgrade set (revised), sidewall, rocker covers with RR logos, 4-slot wheels and also the Radu Brinzan radiators and harness. Having dropped serious coin on the above and also having to buy a pile of model assembly/painting stuff, I'm wondering if the three QB/Master/Eduard accessories will make any noticeable difference to the model. Thanks in advance for your help! Regards, Scott
  10. That's a stunner. I love the dust stains under the wing.
  11. A great-looking Spit! I'm just about to start a Mk VIII. @Urs, to answer your question, a "neutral" grey background makes it easier for a camera to get its white balance correct in auto mode. It's a middling grey, not too dark. Google search "grey card photography" for more information. However, to my eye your photos look fine. The white balance looks okay and I like the way your shots stand out against the dark background. S
