  1. Mate, brilliant job - Chappo would have loved it - still miss having him around, great build in his honour
  2. Thomas What an absolutely stunning build - the attention to detail and studied degree of finish is particularly pleasing Congratulations mate, you must be very proud, well done Greg
  3. Thomas Having very nearly lost my father earlier this year - I have some sense of what you must be feeling - Dad also instilled in me a love of all things aeronautical A very fitting tribute - and extremely well executed too! Congrats and condolences Greg
  4. G'day Kev Great looking finish there ! I always love Aussie subjects that are done well - and yours just looks the part Keep em coming Greg
  5. Well thankyou very much for the kind words - I don't know why it is - but of all the possible choices available for a 109 colour scheme - this one, from the moment I saw it just "put the hook" in me - it was the one scheme that I HAD to do Here is the actual airframe Under German management After the RAF took ownership The parachute on the wing is made by U-Models the only thing that isn't provided in the resin part is the parachute ripcord cable - so that was all I had to add (apart from the paint) Thankyou again for the kind words
  6. Hey Mike Lovely to see you on the boards Whilst it was nice to get the peoples choice vote, I am under no illusion that there was probably a fair bit of "sympathy" involved - after 15 years without a completion my skills haven't entirely left me (thank goodness) but they aren't as good as they were and certainly not yet recovered to the likes of you, Gary Wickham, your Dad, Chappo, Mick Woodgate and many o the others in the club - but hopefully with a few more completions under the belt - I might find myself back where I used to be Thanks for the cherio Greg
  7. Hey Jon Thanks for the comments - I used to (hopefully still can) model a lot of armour so always had lots of grass mats lying around, railway model shops used to provide a smorgasboard for good subjects - the mat used here was by BUSCH and is called "Sommeraue 1306" - Early summer 2 colour As far as the figure is concerned - I fully base coat my figures with a dark chocalate brown first (this provides the counter shading and shadows) I used Tamiya field blue as the uniform base colour, as far as the flesh tones are concerned I like to use humbrol flesh as the main skin tone and use warhammer acrylic (citadel ?) "bleached bone" for the skin highlights - (Ridge of the nose, above the eye brows, cheeks, etc) I always have a couple of good stage makeup handbooks close whenever I am doing figure painting - I find them invaluable - the ones I have are very old but have always rendered me good service I always paint up to the dark chocalate base leaving a very thin line of the chocalate visible alongside the colour being applied - this I find provides shadow and depth to the figure - this is best visible on these pics showing where the chocolate was used as the counterpoint for the harness straps
  8. Cheers Kev Yeah happy for you to post it on the site - if you need other pics there are some floating around
  9. New member - first time poster First completion in well over 15 years ! (family and work got in the way) - originally started this project using the Hasegawa 109 - but got worried that the skills might have gone south so I switched to a 21st Century 109G-14 that was sitting in the stash - I figured well if I stuff it up it least it wasn't expensive ***** of a kit in some ways (very gimmicky)
