  1. Thanks again Tim, will have a look later. Does anyone know if the slats would be open on an aircraft with the wings folded?
  2. Thanks for the pic Tim. Looks pretty smooth to me. Rob
  3. Wow!!!!! As a relative newbie to this hobby, i must say that your work is truly inspiring. Many thanks for sharing it with us.
  4. Thanks Dave. thinking about it now, they were more than likely turned, so i will probably smooth it off. I have seen the technique used on bombs, so thought I would give it a try & it came out really well. As an aside, had a bit of a disaster with the camo last night. The xtracrilix top coat reacted with the primer (alclad microfiller) & crazed in places. It kept blocking my airbrush aswell. Anyone else had this happen? I have now gone back to my original plan & ordered wem colour coats to redo it (they finally had the correct colours in stock). Cheers Rob
  5. Done a bit more today. Sprayed the underside colour, then put together & painted the torpedo. I decided to use Mr colour metallic paints (the buffable ones). For a bit of added texture on the body, i used a sponge & Mr surfacer 500, to give it a rougher cast look. i then sprayed with dark iron, let dry & buffed with my finger. The joints between the two halves of the torpedo, i left as it looked like a casting mark. I have no idea if the casings were cast or not, but i think it looks good. Finally hand painted the props brass for a bit of contrast.
  6. Small update......Not spent much time on it recently due to a mountain of other things that get in the way, but have managed a couple of hours over the last couple of days. Fitted the bottom stub wings to the fuselage. They needed a little filler but nothing too bad. Done a bit more to the top stub wing & fitted most of the PE (left the fiddly bits off for now as they will only get broken off & lost!). Fixed the top & bottom wings together. Masked & primed the fuselage. Nothing too exciting i know, but getting close to chucking some top coat at it.
  7. I also have one in the stash. Watching with interest.........
  8. Cees, I left it out because I could not see it on any of the photos I have. You probably wouldn't be able to see it on the finished model anyway. Regards Rob
  9. Small update; I've not been able to do a lot lately due to work, but managed to sort the fuselage seams after numerous layers of CA, filler & mr surfacer. i have also completely removed all the donuts & replaced them with photo etch from the Eduard hinges & fixings set. In fact I had to buy a second set to get enough of the small round fasteners to completely re do the fuselage. The square & triangular fixings in this set look too bulky to my eyes so didn't use many of them. I also have painted the exhaust collector ring using Mr colour metalic paints. A coat of copper followed with a mist coat of dark iron & buffed up with a soft cloth. I am really impressed how this paint lays down & I found it quite hard to do a thin misty coat without getting full coverage from the dark iron. I have also pre-painted the lower center wing assembly as when the struts are in place, it is hard to mask it all up for the matt black walk areas. All for now..........
  10. No matey, thats the kit part.
  11. Thanks mate. The PE, although a pain in the a....... to do, does make a good model better & i think worth all the glued fingers, swearing, eye strain etc.
  12. Echo all the coments so far............outstanding!
  13. Today i managed to spray in the gun cowling, fit the gun, cockpit, instrument panel & fuel tank & join the fuselage together. The bottom joint fitted where it touched (the very ends) & needed a bit of coaxing together & a drop of CA to fill the gap. The top was not so bad & only needed a little filler. Back to work soon so things will slow down a little.
  14. Finished the laborious task of removing all the donuts on the fuselage & replacing with PE. Worth all the work in the long run. I need to get some paint so i can pre-paint the m/c gun cowling before fitting the gun & stitching up the fuselage. i will be using WEM colour coats Extra dark sea grey/ dark slate grey & dark sea grey/light slate grey for the bottom wing. Just my luck they are out of EDSG at the moment
  15. A few more bits done today. Built the engine with the addition of some PE & some ignition leads & pipework. Finished the rear vickers m/c gun. All for now. Cheers Rob
  16. A couple more pics from this evening Matt, not 100% on which plane to do at the moment, but maybe one from the Bismark attack. Rich, Thanks mate, will look out for the aeroguide book. Cees, Thanks, means alot coming from you. All of you guys on here are a constant source of ideas, knowledge & inspiration. I owe you alot....... Rob
  17. Well here goes, my first build online & only my third build overall. I must say the Swordfish isnt the easiest subject to find online reference photos for, so if anyone knows of any detail pics, i would be pleased to have a look. First impressions of the kit are fairly good with plenty of detail although the quality of moulding & fit is not up to Tamiya standards. I have the Eduard Big Ed set to add aswell. Progress so far:
  18. I have approx a dozen british & US kits in the stash, all WWII, & have recently crossed to the dark side & bought a JU87G. I will probably add a FW190 & BF109 at some stage also. For me the interest lies in the technology, not what they represented (plus i need some targets for my spit & hurri lol).
  19. Thanks Matt, So am i right in thinking that the chute is under the gun body for case ejection & the links come out of the smaller port higher up on the side? Rob
  20. Hi Edgar, Thanks for taking the time to reply, but I was enquiring about the front, cowl mounted gun. Did this use a bag as well? Cheers Rob
  21. What happened to the empty cases from the pilots machine gun on a Swordfish? Were they ejected to the outside, if so where was the hole? or were they collected inside? I am building a Trumpeter Swordfish at the moment & would like to cut any holes before i seal up the fuselage. Cheers Rob
  22. Wow!!!!!!!!! stunning build. Hope my efforts are half as good as this.
  23. Learning loads here wolf, fantastic build
