  1. With tiny magnets and some judicious saw cuts, you can make entire sections of a model removable to expose internal details but easily replaceable.
  2. One of the finest scale models I have ever seen in some 65 years of the hobby. I just wish I could view it in person.
  3. I second the motion of the honorable delegate from the Peach State!
  4. I still say he's a wizard, and his primary modelling tool is not an X-acto knife, but a magic wand shaped like one. On a serious note, I have been building models on and off for most of my 71 years, and in my opinion this model certainly ranks with those of such "greats" as Harry Woodman, Tony Woollett, George Lee, and John Alcorn. Younger modelers may not recognize these names, but those of us in the "senior division" will certainly know who I'm talking about. I just wish I could make it to Telford this year to see it in person.
  5. The late John Alcorn would surely approve. John recently passed away at age 85 due to a combination of many things including Alzheimers, heart troubles, pneumonia, and aspiration of food, as well as other unspecified causes. John was the author of two books, Scratchbuilt! and The Master Scratchbuilders, both published by Schiffer in 1993 and 1999 respectively. Many of you will remember his scratchbuilt 1/24 DH-9A that not only won the IPMS-USa nationals in 1998 but also won the 2000 UK Modelworld. He spent about 6 years and an estimated 8,000 hours on it.
  6. Perhaps we will be able to watch him finish the Tigercat!
  7. Maybe the finest model airplane build ever! Just freaking stunning! And it's not even completed yet!
  8. WARNING! WARNING! DO NOT REPEAT DO NOT USE GARDEN VARIETY CA ADHESIVE TO INSTALL YOUR CANOPIES AND WINDSHIELDS! Rather, use the kind specifically designed for transparencies. It's formulated not to fog your beautiful moldings. Radio control modelers use it. Several brands are available, including AP CA and Permabond. But having come this far and being the experienced modeler we all know you are, you probably know this already, so I'll return you to our regularly scheduled program.
  9. I keep telling you guys he's got a Hogwarts diploma hanging above his workbench. The only two things in his tool kit are a wand and Ye Wizard's Booke of Aeronautical Spelles.
  10. Evidence is overwhelming. Verdict in your favor. Case closed. Da Judge
  11. We're not worthy! (smacking forehead with piece of plywood).
  12. I wish he would cease showing us these real aircraft components and trying to convince us they are model parts. Do the fraud statutes apply here?
  13. Much more so than unobtanium or wishalloy.
  14. Don't you know? He's really building a full-size Spitfire! All that stuff that makes it look like a model is just Hollywood photographic effects!
  15. Ever considered selling copies of that PE fret? There's some very useful stuff on it!
  16. I have it on good authority that Peter is NOT 1/18 scale; rather, he is a graduate of Hogwarts. All he has to do is wave his magic wand and chant "Supermarinius miniaturius one-eighteenius" and a full-scale part is magically reduced.
  17. That color was discontinued by Humbrol a long time ago. I obtained mine via an ebay auction. The seller was in Canada, and had several other old new stock discontinued Humbrol colors, including Gloss Yellow No. 8, a dead match for pre-WW II US Navy Yellow-Orange as used on upper wings of biplane fighters.
  18. Good to know, as I recently acquired 6 tins of Humbrol Eau-de-Nil, all as fresh as the day they were originally filled, and in the original cardboard container to boot!
  19. I've always been under the impression that the Eau de Nil color WAS a primer; is this not so?
  20. Gobsmacked! Stunning craftsmanship! Wish I could see it up close and personal.
