DMunne
Well...... I don't know for sure. Here's my take on it, and how I'm going to build mine when I get around to it. Every Corsair I've seen in person, which are restored, seems to be painted both. It seems that the inside of the cowling is painted GSB back to a point even with the cylinders then green after that. the best pic I have found is here: http://agapemodels.com/wp-content/uploads/...lkaround-31.jpg and here http://data.primeportal.net/hangar/bill_sp...u-4/F4U-4aw.jpg You have to look hard for the demarcation line. One of the photo is for a F4U-5, but I've had the opportunity to look into a -4 at an airshow, and it looks the same. But just for the record, and to be completely fair this -5 has the wing folds painted white. I've never seen that in pics of wartime Corsair shots so it may not be totally accurate. http://agapemodels.com/?p=1243&cpage=1 Sincerely, Crash
CharlesMetz
In accord with Crash's observation of museum Corsairs, William Reece's justly famous rec.model.scale and Hyperscale posting states that the inside of F4U-4 engine cowlings "was Zinc Chromate Yellow, Interior Green or possibly Flat Black with the area ahead of the cylinder seal in Glossy Sea Blue." DMunne
As I stated in a previous thread, I am a reference junkie! After scanning through a few walkarounds on the Corsair, I found this pic: http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/AWA1...369_qagm_25.jpg This looks like the best pic I could find showing the demarcation line. BTW, check out these walkarounds if you have the time. http://rides.webshots.com/album/559306986IzdhML?start=60 http://www.ig-corsair.de/Walkaround%20Red%20Bull1.html http://www.cybermodeler.com/aircraft/f4u/f4u_walk.shtml http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/AWA1...air/walk136.htm http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/AWA1...t2/walk136b.htm http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/AWA1...t3/walk136c.htm Hope this helps, Crash BTW Thanks for the backup Charles. Always good to have someone else on your side.
