405th FG P-47D Whoooo questions

Hello all

I'm starting an Hasegawa P-47. I want to make the P-47D-26 SN 42 28382, Whoooo

This plane was transfered from 56th FG, where it was painted grey/green and named Ole Cock III at the end of 1944 (date unknown)

So it was painted OD/NG when it was sent to the 405th FG, did you think that stencils were painted too?

What was the color of the wing tips? Red or OD? The 509thFS painted the wing tip in red in early 1945, Eagle Cal and Eduard said that wing tips were OD. But its difficult to say because photos of the airplane were poor quality.

It can't be determined (at least with my eyes) from extant black and white photos that the wingtips were painted red. The cowling had a red band and it had a red stripe on the vertical fin above the s/n though. Any idea on the source of red wingtips?

 

Aeromaster, Eagle Editions and Montex, all show the windscreen and canopy to be painted red, as well as red stripes on the horizontal tails..

 

Be careful using Eagle Editions as they can't be made to sit correctly on the Hasegawa kit based on, again, extant photos, some of which are contained in their instructions. The biggest problem being the letters in "WHOOOOOOO", which are far too large and incorrectly angled. The wolf head, while stunning, doesn't sit where it should when applied. The decals are gorgeous, though, and they go on flawlessly. I detailed the issues to Jerry Crandall many years ago in an email with photos, but he never replied. Montex has sized them correctly. 

 

Aeromaster only did them in 1/48. I haven't used mine but have photos of built models utilizing them, and they certainly appear correct.

Thnak you vey much. I didn't knox that Eagle Cal decal are incorrect. May be I will buy Montex Mask .
