It always amazes me that we don't yet have a state-of-the art kit of the F-4B Phantom. The Tamiya kits are excellent and with the amazing assortment of interesting markings used on the Vietnam Era F-4B's, its baffling that Tamiya haven't released a new version of their venerable F-4J with the parts to backdate it to an F-4B, arguably the most popular Phantom. Another puzzle is why the cottage industry hasn't produced a high quality 3D printed conversion. I have built two Tamiya J models backdated to a B model using the GT Resin conversion set which isn't bad, but still subject to the vagaries of resin casting. The Cutting Edge conversion is really un-obtainium at this point. I also found a resin set made by a Czech (?) manufacturer but the wing inserts were cast so paper thin that they shattered even with the most gentle handling, pretty much useless. I knwo nothing about 3D printing but I believe the parts for the B conversion set would be easy to do in the #D printing medium. Anyway, just a minor rant driven by Phantom Phever and hoping the great folks at Tamiya or Model Monkey or another of the 3D parts producers will come to the rescue.

Hi gang, figured I'd toss up a WIP on my latest LSP project. I picked up the kit at Hobby Lobby ages ago with a 40% off coupon with a QF4 in mind. Somewhere also picked up a GT Resin Nose Correction and intake kit. Later on I added a RF4 Cockpit kit to address the boring, bland and under detailed Revell Cockpit. This was to be an in flight build, starting out I wanted to address the conversions and resin additions. The nose job. Lacking any instructions I sized up the new nose and comparing panel lines figured out my initial cuts. After completing them and receiving my cockpit set, I glued the front halves together. This highlights a diameter differene between the Resin nose and kit. To facilitate the pinch' I needed I cut off the "gun trough". This allowed me to get an allllllmost gap free fit from the new nose to the fuse. Once that was done I added the "gun trough" back on and added the 'G radar bulb. I still need to go back and rescribe panel lines etc. But getting this far was a lot of work. more to come!

Hi all, I'm new to this forum so I'll introduce myself. I'm Jer, I've been modelling planes for many years but i have only ever worked on 72 scale but predominately 48 scale. I normally post on Britmodeller but when researching into this build I ended up here, so it seemed sensible to share what I'm doing with you guys as this forum is all about the Larger scales. Thought I'd cut my teeth on the Tamiya F15C (my fav plane) and purchased as much AM stuff for it as possible. So here is my starting point........ I'll post more pics as I start to throw it together! Cheers Jer

OK, I just couldn't stay away so here's my newest GB entry. I'm just waiting on one to arrive for the Interwar years GB and then I'll have one in both. Although it's the final version of the infamous Lawn Dart, Brad OK'd it as being representative of the type. For AM bits, I have the Aires cockpit set and wheel bays, Eduard wheels, GT Resin burner can and exhaust, and the Zotz decal sheet. Carl
