  1. Hi Guys, Thank you for your input guys, I'll go with my original plan of folded wingtips. I had some Vallejo washes that I had bought some time ago, but I didn't like what I was seeing so I hadn't used them in a while. After watching some YouTube videos on this stuff I think what my problem before was is I was using an acrylic wash on an acrylic paint and causing a stain wherever it landed. Since these are enamels I used and I had a spare wing top because the original was damaged I had it replaced by Tamiya and used it as a paint guinea pig when picking my camouflage colors. Sooooo I used it for a wash guinea pig too. Here's what I came up with: There's actually three colors of wash from Vallejo on this one part at the wing root closer to the leading edge is Dark Brown, at the wing root and the trailing edge up to the aileron is Dark Gray, and further outboard and in the circular fuel caps is Oiled Earth. What do you guys think? I'm leaning bit more towards the Dark Gray myself. Do I want to give this thing a coat of Future first? The guinea pig wing only has paint and no Future on it. Cheers, Brady
  2. Hello everybody, I'm back and I think I'm done painting the camouflage on my Zero. I think I'm going to call it good there. Now I'm done with this I'm trying to decide if I want the wingtips folded or straight. I haven't removed the masks from the leading edges or the insignia yet in the photos, so don't freak about overspray. I still have a few small things to add and paint like the antenna is only dry fitted and the lights still need to be added to the wings and wingtips. I also have to paint the rear of the blades of the prop black and give the whole thing a coat of Future. Then on to the small decals and another coat of Future. I'd kind of like to try some oil washes on this build, but I'm not convinced I know what I'm doing there yet. Any advice on which ones (brands and colors) are better for using on aircraft models? Most models I've watched YouTube videos on have done a tank model or Armour of some sort. Any advice or tips are much appreciated before I spend money experimenting. Cheers, Brady
  3. Hi Guys, Thanks for the input, I'm still waiting on my new release A6M5c kits to get here so if nothing else you've got me excited to see what I get. I hope that Hasegawa runs the table on Zeros in 1/32 scale too. I've gotta say I'd really like to see an A6M3 preferably a Model 32, maybe even before an A6M7. I've got to say I really don't know in what way(s) I need to enlarge the cowling exactly anyway. I guess I'll just wait if they're this close to already releasing it themselves. A captured A6M8 would be cool to have in 1/32 too, since they're the only ones that I know of to make it in 1/48, I'm probably just wishful thinking though. Cheers, Brady
  4. Hi Guys, I'm back with another question that I'm not sure if anyone will have the answer for yet because of release date on the kit itself. I was wondering if the newly released Hasegawa A6M5c would be the kit I'd want to use as a base kit for an A6M7? Will I need to really do any converting to it other than adding a centerline bomb and wing tanks? What do you guys think would be the best place to get a set of wing tanks? Cheers, Brady
  5. Hi everyone, I got the camouflage painted on on the other side of my Zero tonight. Here's what it looks like on the other side now: I've got to do some touch up work around the wing root area with the Amber Grey or buff some of the Green overspray off there. There's not a very good hard distinguished line between the two colors in that area. I've also got to do a bit more green along the side of the fuselage that butts up with the leading edge of the left horizontal tail plane, because I got some overspray there too. A shot from above with a comparison to the enlarged Hasegawa instructions' profile: After looking at the two views compared I realized I missed one patch of green on the inside of the left wing insignia and added some of my own on the aileron here. I'm debating adding a bit of green inside the insignia and leaving the aileron alone or just leave it all alone, seeing there's no known photos of the real plane that show the camouflage pattern here anyway. That's all I've got for now. Cheers, Brady
  6. Hello everyone, Thank you all for all the kind words. I hope to be able to paint the other side later tonight. I've already traced the whole wing pattern with a pencil, it's just waiting for paint. More to come soon. Cheers, Braady
  7. Hello everyone, I'm back with some obvious progress this time. I started painting the green field camouflage today during some spare time I had. I was originally quite puzzled as to how I was going to apply the green camouflage, that's why I've kind of drug my feet at doing this part. I finally found a scanned copy of the 1/48 scale instructions for the Hasegawa kit of this particular bird online and enlarged it to almost the actual size of the Tamiya kit. I then used the printout of the enlarged size to do my best to draw the camouflage pattern on the right wing and fuselage side with a pencil. I then used the pencil markings like a stencil with the airbrush. After doing this, this is what the Zero looks like now: I'll do the same for the camouflage on the other side next. That's all for now. Cheers, Brady
  8. Hi Eric, First off welcome to the forum! Secondly, your build looks awesome so far. Keep up the good work! Cheers, Brady
  9. Hi KOG7777, Go with Red Pegasus for your air racers' decals. Keith prints your decals when you order them, they don't sit around gathering moisture from the air somewhere, so he has an endless stock as long as he has his work and ink in the printer. As far as having someone make you particular warbird decals, these days I'd go with Kits World decals. I've requested a few particular subjects to be printed and they all have been published. I asked for the F-6D "Shady Lady" and the F-6C "Oh Johnie" along with, Maj. Harry Crimm's Mustang "My Achin' " and a few P-47s like "Helen Jo" to be printed and they made them for me. I don't think that "Yankee Lady" the B-17 that belongs to Yankee Air Museum in Michigan is an accurate WWII paint scheme and Kits World has produced their B-17's markings as decals. Their website is www.kitsworld.co.uk just email them your requests of future subjects to be printed and they will probably ask for some pictures in a reply. You just have to wait your turn "in line" so to speak for your subject to come to the top of their list. I don't think I ever waited as much as even 6 months though. My next subjects to send to them are going to be a few F-6Ds from the Korean War of the 45th TRS or the Polk-a-dot squadron, and maybe a sharkmouth F-51D mustang or two from Korea too. Kits World makes very nice crisply printed decals and their goal is to make what we modelers want and can't find or never had before. Cheers, Brady
  10. Lol....it was late what can I say, sorry Peter. She's beautiful Peter! Brady
  11. We need a proper tooled 1/32 A6M3 Model 32 Hamp that we don't have to do all kinds of butchering to it. Brady
  12. Thanks for all the information guys. I have never had a 21st century bird in my hands so I have no idea what their quality is. Juggernut I actually have that decal set, I actually was considering doing 1053 on that sheet but the tail markings aren't definitely 1053's they were just on a tail that was recovered at the same time and no one knows if it was 1053's or not. All I need is someone to make a good conversion set that's still in production. Cheers, Brady
  13. Hello everyone, Does anyone make a good A6M3 Model 32 Hamp in 1/32 scale or a conversion set for one? I want to do a Zero with Houkoku numbers but most of them were Hamps and I'm not finding a Hamp kit period. Thanks, Brady
  14. Hello Everybody, Thank you guys for your kind remarks on my build. Now for a quick update. I took the masks off today to see my final results of painting the insignia on the fuselage. The right-hand side turned out better than the left side did, but that's due to me and being off a slight bit in my alignment of the two masks on top of each other. Here's the left side, I will have to do some touch-up on the white outline because of a bit of red overspray. And the right side: That's all for now. Cheers, Brady
  15. Hello Everyone, I got the corrected masks that Randy made me, put in place yesterday and got to paint the red today. You can see a close up that shows how the insignia will look with a white outline after I paint the red here. After the red: An overall shot while the red dries before removing the masks. That's what she looks like for now until I can mask off all the insignia to start applying the green. I'm considering spraying the whole thing with Future, insignias included, so if I need to polish some green off later I have the protective layer of Future to save my work this far. What do you guys think? Cheers, Brady
  16. Lol another example of me not being able to spell. Brady
  17. She looks Awesome David! And what a great purpose to build a Corsair!. I gave my last Tamiya P-51D to a family friend that's a WWII veteran and he was astonished when I gave it to him at the detail there is to a model now days verses when he was younger. He said that Christmas had come early last year when I gave it to him in late summer. I hope you get to have the same great feeling when you hand this off to Bob. Cheers, Brady
  18. Hello everyone, Just a quick update, I got some corrected masks from Randy Saturday for the red portion of the insignia on the fuselage, but didn't have the opportunity to use them yet, because Saturday was my wife's birthday. Gotta keep the priorities. I'll try to get them painted sometime this week so we can move on to the green camouflage. Cheers, Brady
  19. Here's the shot of the original tail code. What do you guys think did I match it well in size and location with the stencils? Brady
  20. Hello everyone, I took the surrounding masks off the insignia on the wings and the tail codes today and placed the cutouts over the red to serve as a mask for when I paint the camouflage green. Here's how they turned out: Here's a close-up of the comparison of the red under the masking material on top and the red on top of the white paint on the used masks. I almost think it looks more like a correct color red under the shade of the masking material. Here's the prop and spinner, now I'm wondering if the Alclad is too shiney and it just needs painted. Cheers, Brady
